During my first year at UWE I have learned so much in regards to my chosen field (children and young people’s nursing) and I am, overall, really enjoying it. I have met like-minded mature students who all want to make the most out of this degree and the university has been really supportive in encouraging these connections.
There are some negatives, due to covid19, which is online learning. When being taught online, it is really difficult to communicate effectively with peers, or even the lecturers. Many of us find some of the lecturers to dismiss our concerns over this way of learning.. so there have been a few complaints and people losing interest in the course.
UWE is very multi-cultural, and supports everyone from all different backgrounds, including the LGBTQ community… this allows us students to gain more knowledge surrounding beliefs, sexuality, identity etc., and enables us to make close friendships which may not have been established beforehand. I really respect the diversity this uni offers, and love all it stands for.
As a welsh, mature student, I look forward to driving in for my seminars and seeing my colleagues. I am so excited for the next two years, hopefully, we can be on campus for every teaching session.
