The city itself is nice and picturesque but too placid to be conducive to the engaging student experience. The University is awkwardly configured within it, being far too atomised in relation to the city to create any sense of community or centralisation. In my opinion, the peculiar geographical character of the university is a major contributing factor to the widespread sense of isolation and poor mental health within it. The curriculum in the humanities is neither challenging nor interesting. While some decent faculties and courses exist they are rare, and their very existence causes problems of internal division within departments. The English department, for example, was fraught with tension between faculty members who had different opinions on the way in which higher education should be constituted. The amenities of both the university and the city are impressive, and the student nightlife is in places entertaining. The university has issues with student politics and homogenisation, both of which are sources of great frustration to a large contingent of the student population. I would not recommend this university.
