I have had a fantastic experience at the University of Sunderland – and most importantly I have learned what I came here to learn. Students starting at this university can expect to complete a year in which they cover all fundamental areas of computing such as networking and object-oriented programming, with the opportunity to switch to a different computing degree after completing year one.
Even students without previous IT training can begin the course and have a very good chance of success as the tuition is progressive and tasks are regularly set for students to build upon skills – so students who have not completed IT at Level 3 need not have any concerns – although a foundation year is offered.
The school has recently improved the Cyber Security programme by merging the two existing cyber security courses into one – removing some modules unrelated to Cyber Security and adding in further security modules – even an ethical hacking module! This leaves graduates with training in Cyber security, digital forensics and ethical hacking, leaving them with wide horizons upon graduating.
The university has many international students and campuses in China also, and accessibility support such as assistance in students for whom English is not their first language. The university works with students to tailor their experience to their life outside of study – such as students estranged from family, or leaving the armed forces.
Overall, the university is a very friendly and professional place to study, with the sole aim of delivering tuition which meets the demands of modern industry, and with a keen interest in listening to students and constantly improving, the University of Sunderland is a strong option for any student.
