Student review [#9027] for Fashion Styling and Creative Direction
at Southampton Solent University

Solent University is modern and has a lot of potential. University recently built a new building Spark and it adds up a lot of charm to the whole campus. The facilities, especially in the new building – Spark, are wonderful. It has state-of-art furniture, lovely cafeteria, big and comfortable lecture theatres and classrooms with flexible furniture and new technologies. University also has a big library with a huge selection of books, magazines, online journals, online access to paid websites, lots of computers with new software installed and so on. Solent University also has photography and makeup studios free to use for any student from the discipline, which is a great bonus! The staff and teachers at Solent are friendly, helpful and motivated. However, art and especially Fashion courses lack structure, practical lessons, tutorials, guest lectures, provided materials and industry guidance. The fashion courses definitely need improvement as the whole industry evolves around practice and there are none practical lessons included in the course. All in all, I enjoyed my time at Solent, but I wished I could have gained more experience and knowledge in my chosen subject.
