Studying Graphic Design at the University of Portsmouth has been a rewarding and creative experience. The course balances practical skills with critical thinking, giving me a strong foundation in both the technical and conceptual sides of design. I particularly enjoyed working on live briefs and collaborative projects, which pushed me to apply my creativity to real-world challenges and develop work that felt industry-relevant.
The facilities are modern and well-equipped, with access to software, studios, and resources that supported my learning. The tutors are knowledgeable and approachable, offering both guidance and the freedom to.

My time at UoP was one filled with many ups and downs, enduring battles with my mental health, personal identity and the COVID lockdown. UoP helped me through all of this, helping me financially, mentally, and emotionally, I couldn’t give my school enough credit, I loved my course and my tutors, and they made the most out of a bad situation. Graduating was one of the best days of my life, however, taking an arts degree was difficult. I often felt as though the grading system was unfair and biased toward personal opinion, how do you grade art? It’s subjective to one’s own view.

I enrolled in the Three Dimensional Design BA(Hons) course at the University of Portsmouth with high expectations for a transformative journey into the world of spatial creativity. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed to offer a well-rounded education in three-dimensional design. It covers a spectrum of techniques, materials, and theoretical concepts. The modules seamlessly integrate practical skills with critical thinking, encouraging students to approach design challenges from multiple perspectives. The University of Portsmouth provides state-of-the-art facilities for Three Dimensional Design students. From well-equipped workshops to modern design studios, the infrastructure supports hands-on experimentation and the realization of creative ideas. The diverse and vibrant student community adds another layer to the overall experience. Collaborative projects and group discussions contribute to a dynamic learning atmosphere, where students can share ideas and learn from each other’s perspectives.

Portsmouth University may not be the strongest academically, but it more than makes up for it with its unbeatable location. The university is situated in the heart of Portsmouth, a lively coastal city with a rich cultural heritage and a wide range of amenities. The university’s focus on practical, hands-on learning, combined with its excellent career support and diverse student body, provides a unique and rewarding learning experience. Overall, while it may not be the best academically, Portsmouth University is a fantastic choice for students seeking a vibrant and exciting city experience.

The campus is great and there are many things to explore. I am a creative student and the university’s facilities are a 10/10. There’s a lot support to help you a lot with your work even when I don’t have the necessary items.

I am currently in my final year studying Film Production. I love living in the city of Portsmouth, there’s lots to do and everything is close and convenient.

The lecturers tend to respond very quickly (some times within an hour!) and they usually give good helpful advice and are always willing to book a meeting with you to discuss work or answer any questions.

However, I feel that the actual course itself has been lacking in some areas. There have been times lessons and modules are announced or moved around last minute (sometimes on the morning of), even though its a practical course a lot of it still remains online, its always a pain to book film equipment, and sometimes even if you book far in advance others get prioritised and you cant get what you had previously requested.

Overall I’d say the course was okay but at times you have to do a lot of chasing and asking around to find out info. Everyone on the course is always willing to help and chat and share work/advice and the university has offered a few work opportunities.

The city is amazing and really lit up at nights. Everything is local and decently affordable with the beach being close to the main campus late night walks on the beach are a refreshing break from studying.

A good university especially for the creative courses. Good equipment and facilities for the students plus effective teaching. The University has a really unique campus that allows for both a city and beach feel.

Portsmouth university is an all and all good university, it has a rich nightlife with a friendly student environment along with a beach that is within walking distance from the main university buildings, accommodations and facilities. As a student, I study Media and Communications, though the course is interesting, it can often be boring at times but this will only affect people like me who are more into the creative aspect of media. If you love the technical, behind-the-scenes, historical and theoretical side of media then this program will be perfect for you. Much of the faculty is well-versed in the industry and has amazing insider tips along with a lot of of opportunities to help students get into the media industry.
