Although UCL is a very prestigious university with great academics, I’d like to highlight that it’s so much bigger than I realised it would be! This sounds basic, but before I came I’d never lived in a city before and I really struggled with the size of the university. I found it difficult to make friends because I’d see someone once a week, rather than every day like I was used to. I would say though that there’s a huge range of clubs and societies which are great communities to join! I also love the diversity at UCL, there’s people from many different backgrounds and from all over the world so you can really learn about other cultures. However, as an English student, I think the syllabus is pretty conservative and not very diverse, with literature focusing really only on England and the US, not even on literatures from other parts of the UK, or post-colonial literatures.
