I joined Lancaster University at a time when it ranked in the Top 10 universities in the UK. The subject matter of my courses were academically enriching and the campus is a beautiful place to be in and amongst (other than December).
Following the emergence of covid, classes were moved online. This naturally derailed learning and social experiences that are vital to a university experience.
Overall, Lancaster as a university is of a very high standard, though if you’re someone who is looking for an intense party culture in the main town, you may be disappointed. The main plus of Lancaster University is the campus itself; the city will become mundane after a while once everywhere has been explored in the first few months.

When examining Lancaster university one should not focus solely on it’s ranking among other universities in the UK, as those only take into consideration the economic (that is to say, professional success) of their prospective students. I would argue that a university is much more than that, as it prepares us not only for our future careers but for our lives in general. Lancaster is undoubtedly one of the best universities for career aspirations, but also (and I would argue more importantly) it shapes its students into independent, self-sufficient and driven individuals who are mentally and physically ready for the wild jungle that is the modern labour market. Lancaster offers its students a social sphere that guarantees contact with people and subjects that makes them question their lifelong held beliefs whilst also opening them up for new ideas, opinions, and ways of thought. In any case, you can come to Lancaster University for a degree, but you will come out with much more than that!

Although I was reluctant to join at first as it was not my first choice, it was only a matter of time before my opinions and views on Lancaster University quickly changed. The collegiate system not only creates a greater sense of unity and belonging within the university, as well as aids to the creation of lifelong friendships. For instance, I have not only bonded with people within my course, but also with the people from my college, and the several societies that I have joined. In terms of academic, I do believe that the concept of the collegiate system has made my time studying at Lancaster University extremely enjoyable. There is a clear distinction between my studies and my social life which I believe is very effective for me to not only learn efficiently as well as for my wellbeing.
