Med School at Imperial is the place to be!

I’m half way through my degree – so just finished 3rd year and it’s honestly been a great experience. I can’t speak for the university as a whole, so the other faculties, but the faculty of Medicine is just wonderful!

The course itself is tough, but there’s always so much support around. Whether that’s from faculty or student-run and led societies that are always dishing out free opening tutorials and more personal tutoring schemes.

The hospitals attached to the medical school are honestly world-class and some of the very best in the country, so that’s super exciting being taught by great lecturers/ doctors who are absolute experts in their field.

I think a major strength Imperial’s medical school has is its ability to adapt – with the COVID19 situation, they very quickly swapped over to providing us with incredible online teaching and introducing new platforms. They’ve also been very consistent with asking us for feedback, and actually using the feedback to improve things for us.

They really do take student wellbeing seriously as well. For instance, London is an incredibly expensive place to live in. I had an experience wherein I struggled to pay for rent on time, so I was directed by my personal tutor to the senior tutor for the year. Within 6hours of speaking to her and sending through a copy of my bank statement for the month, I was granted £1000 (which I didn’t have to pay back) to cover costs. This was an incredibly generous move from the medical school that helped me immensely and I appreciate it very much to this day.

The uni has offered me loads of job opportunities, which has been a saving grace! I started off blogging for the university as a fresher, this was very flexible and they paid £10 to do 2 posts a month- good exchange if you ask me! Additionally, joining schemes offer more opportunities at the uni. For instance, President’s Ambassadors offers signing up to give campus tours (available weekly), doing ticketing
