    Strathclyde - centre and vibrant

The University of Strathclyde is in the centre of Glasgow and at the heart of the student heart of the city. The location is key to its popularity and is also centred close to nightclubs. Nonetheless, the ‘centre-ness’ of the university to the student accommodation can make the feeling mundane at points, especially in this current COVID-19 climate. Nonetheless being centre also allows the ability to be close to nightclubs and other student accommodation, however, it could mean you are subject to ‘centre of city’ living costs. The student accommodation in Glasgow is expensive and when moving into your second year and moving out of halls, it can become a potential issue trying to find flats, with the current housing crisis in Scotland. Near Strathclyde student accommodation is the new student union, which can be described as the new centre of all ‘Strathclyde’.

    Diverse cohort, challenging real-world experience

I chose this programme because I wanted to study with a diverse group of students, and it did not disappoint. The challenge of working with students from other countries was invaluable and I learned a tremendous amount about cultural differences in communication and ways of working.

The course material and work strike a nice balance between academic and real-world practicality. There were a number of opportunities to engage with local business leaders to analyse organisational challenges and recommend solutions, as well as receive feedback from decision-makers.

I also really enjoyed the opportunity to opt into courses and electives alongside the part-time MBA students and network with them.

While the MBA staff work incredibly hard to support the students, I think it would be beneficial to bring in a few more potential employers, though understandably, many of the cohort who study at the programme do intend to return to their home countries afterward.

Overall a really terrific programme and one that I highly recommend to anyone who asks!

    A fruitful experience

I remember my experience in Glasgow from five years ago as a clear highlight of my student life. While I had already been studying my bachelor’s degree in Management for 3 complete years in Barcelona, it wasn’t until I got to Strathclyde that I was really able to enjoy what I was studying. The methodology applied during the semester’s classes and the exams’ typology, which was more practical and empirical in comparison to the ones I was used to in my prior teaching experience, helped me understand how a great way of studying is possible. Therefore, in the following years, I’ve been able to build my own path to follow while studying by praxis that can best fit my needs. Also, the location was great as the campus was located in the city centre and the environment was charming.

Most teachers had experience working in private companies and that was useful.

Most accommodations were very close to the uni facilities and it was great to have the city centre by just 5 minutes walking. However, the uni is distributed in too many buildings, and it was a huge pain to have all classes in at least 10 different buildings. I was late and lost too many times because of that. Courses were good, but they were too focused on “how” to create assignments (limit for the number of words, index, references) than “what” was the actual content of them, so it felt like they were just preparing you to work in the academic world. Besides that, we learned how to use different computer programs, subjects matter were wide and complete, and we also did several field analyses. In summary, it was useful learning but could have been better. Glasgow life is fantastic. A great option if you’re considering it for an exchange year or Erasmus.

    University of Strathclyde

I did my Erasmus at the University of Strathclyde in 2016-2017 and it has been one of the best years of my life. Not only academically but also personally. The program they have is based on a business-case methodology and it is a very good way of acquiring practical learning. I was used to learn very differently but this helped me to broaden my mind. By its methodology you learn how to apply practical knowledge to real world problems. Also, they provided a wide range of resources (such as the library, open resources for studying, data catalogues) that allow you to live a full experience.
