What Is a Marketing Degree?

A business cannot survive if its products are not marketed in the proper way. Luckily for all the businesses out there, the number of candidates wanting to pursue a marketing career is growing tremendously.

The aim of this degree is to help students anticipate, manage, and satisfy customers’ needs and wants. By doing so, they will be able to effectively communicate the benefits of any business product to the targeted market.

Due to the fact that marketing is a complex industry, which tackles many areas ranging from market research to advertising and promotion, this degree focuses on all parts of the process before concentrating on a particular area of study.

Benefits of a Marketing Degree

Good news for marketing graduates! If you did not know yet, marketing is an essential aspect of all types of businesses, from all sectors of activity. Thus, all of them rely on marketers to promote and sell their products. A high market demand comes with many job opportunities available.

According to Labor Department Findings, graduates with a marketing degree can earn 98% more per hour than the ones working in the industry without having a specialised degree.

Furthermore, students are equipped with transferable skills, such as excellent communication abilities, strategic thinking, planning, data analysis and so on, that can be used in other industries too.

Marketing Degree Structure

Marketing degrees can be studied either as Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc). The major difference lies in the presence of more scientific and technological aspects, which are commonly seen in a BSc rather than a BA.

Like most degrees, marketing courses last between three and four years, depending on the university. However, there are institutions which give students the possibility to do a two-year associate’s degree – also called a ‘foundation’ degree.

Even if graduating from both degrees qualifies candidates to work in this industry, a Bachelor degree has higher chances to lead you to well-paid jobs.

    Great experience

Pursuing management(marketing) at UoB gave me the opportunity to live away from my home for the first time. However the warmth of the professors, staff and my course mates made me feel welcome from the beginning. Always with an analytical and logical thinking, i was introduced to courses like strategy and finance and accounting with sharpened my skills and through the management and organisation course, i learned more about what principals the businesses follow. Moreover, i have found people with similar interests who have helped me in learning more about marketing and strategic decision making. Overall, I am having a pleasant experience at the university, while learning new things and having new experiences

The hot air balloon of the universe

I would highly recommend this university, although I have only been in Bristol for a little over a month, I have already completely fallen in love with it. Not only is the hot air balloon the symbol of Bristol, but I think it is also a good description of the academic atmosphere here. Each student is a unique hot air balloon, and the school has a nice chapel-style library where you can get enough ‘fuel’ to explore your own field, reach a certain height and have a broad view,or a teacher can give you the right guidance in time to prevent you from flying off the rails.

    faculty of business in uob

A new business school has been opened this year, and the school atmosphere is very good. There is a career centre for students, which is very helpful for students to explore their career paths.
Generally speaking, I am very satisfied with my life at the University of Bristol.

    Overall a decent university

My overall opinion of Bristol University is mixed. For some of my modules the lecturers and seminar leaders were really helped and explained things well. But others basically just read off of the presentation slides and didn’t explain what they required of you properly. It was definitely a lot of self teaching. My accommodation was standard but the food was good and they had 3 options every night for dinner. I must say though the mental health resources could be better as I know a lot of my friends and other people complained about them.

    Changed my perspective

Being an international student i was quite nervous, but my nerves were put aside soon as my program on campus started. Throughout my course i was always in contact with my lovely professors, they were always there for me which made it very easy for me. The Uni really boosted my confidence and gave me a stepping stone towards a professional career. I learnt alot of things that an individual should. Team building exercises taught me how to be an effective team player.

    Diversity

I would say the best thing about being at Bristol University is that you always have support and help available. As a fresher in my first year, the university organised many fresher activities and campus presentations to help me settle into campus life more quickly. Within 1 month of starting school, I received emails from many departments at the school including freshman activities course schedules, housing, transportation, tuition, clubs, volunteering, part-time jobs, mental health, personal tutors, alumni mentoring, etc. Each email made me more aware of the school and I was able to get help from the school first time both academically and in life. As an international student, this eased the anxiety and stress of living and studying in a distant and unfamiliar country. The University of Bristol also provides my lectures and support with career preparation which is helpful for students to prepare and determine their career pathway.
