View moreHaving completed a degree in the life sciences school I have good experience with Aston. A majority of the staff are really interested in the research they conduct and are excited to share their own and other upcoming research across the globe with students, most lectures are taught very well with great enthusiasm and try to interact well with students. The University has a strong student village with many other accommodations of varying expense found throughout the centre and Birmingham as a whole. The University is situated right on the edge of the centre making it easy to simply walk into town and enjoy what Birmingham has to offer. Aston has a great Student Union building with a great range of societies to get involved in. The downside of the university is Admin in almost every department seems to take longer than it should but speaking to many other students from other universities this seems to be a common theme. Wherever you go I hope you develop really well and have a great time.
View moreJust graduated from Aston. Had a good 3 years here and enjoyed my time. Very close to Bham city centre where there’s so many shops and eateries all in walking distance, as are the major train stations. Easy to get the buses from town. The campus is small but nice. Good facilities and labs and lecture theatres.
A large amount of time was remote learning because of Covid which changed the experience obviously. But when we were on campus, I had a good time and met nice people. Very diverse community of people and the course staff are helpful.
Graduated from the uni in Biomedical Sciences this year and overall I’m very happy I chose to come here. The facilities such as the lecture theatre, labs, SU are all really good and done up well. Really enjoyed my time with the more practical aspects of the degree and the lab facilities were good to do all our research and experiments in. I’ve met some of my closest friends here. The cohort of people were so nice and everyone was supportive. It wasn’t too big but that was nice and meant you could recognise most people on the course. The vibe wasn’t super cold or competitive which fit my needs perfectly and just felt like a nice environment to be working in. The staff were always on hand to help and offered support when needed, specifically when I needed help writing and refining my dissociation. Of course Covid hindered the uni experience when all learning was converted to online so was very happy when by the end everything had more to less gone back to in person. The campus is small but has a nice feel to it and is so close to everything you’d want next to a uni. Bham city centre is a short walk away and has so many good food options, as are the major train and bus stations. A very diverse uni, I’d recommend.
View moreAston provides a really good diverse introduction into university life. You get the heart of Birmingham without it feeling too busy and rushed. You’re able to enjoy what’s on offer with lots of support and encouragement from fellow students as well as supervisors and lecturers.
From an optometry point of view you get a whole building dedicated to improving your skills and clinical expertise. As well as this you have your own clinics which cover all different aspects of optometry such as low vision, contact lenses, sight tests, contact lenses and more! The support from supervisors is second to none they give so much insight into their speciality.
Overall I loved my experience at Aston and would highly recommend to anyone considering it as an option!
Good luck! 🙂
View moreThere are so many different things you can go and explore at this university and they have societies and activities to satisfy every single person. The science and healthcare department has a fabulous range of resources and support available 24/7 for everyone !!
View moreAston university is in a prime location with a beautiful campus. The students are kind are the a lot of the lecturers and personal tutors really want their students to succeed. There are a multitude of societies to join and everyone is super friendly and kind. I wish there was more diversity in the lecturing staff, however.
View moreI like the uni however they seem to prioritise some degrees over other degrees and give them more assistance in terms of placment searching/ more guidance and resources that give other student a disadvantage.
