Student review [#8527] for Mechanical Engineering
at Middle East Technical University - METU

The atmosphere of university great. Firstly the university is on huge campus and has huge forest and several lakes, so the students live in nature, even some bird species only live in METU’s Campus in the world. The most important advantage after the nature, there is more than 100 student associations which are mostly active and organize at least 1-2 events in a year in METU. You can easily do what you want such as any kind of sport teams, scientific, political societies and international committees. Even we have a few Quidditch teams. (They are flying around campus).
On the other hand, in the campus you can live without going outside. University has sport areas, fitness centers, labs, a library and a shopping mall. It’s important because Ankara isn’t a perfect city for studying.
Academically, METU is the most important university in Turkey. Since it’s a technical university, academic level of Engineering Faculties is really high especially in Electrical, Computer and Mechanical Engineering. The disadvantage of these three departments than others is they are extremely hard. Most of the engineering department has ABET which means substantial equivalence with United States. Mostly, the professors are great and have good communication with students. Also, they carry out important research and they lead in Turkey.
The disadvantage is very few European students study in METU just like everywhere in Turkey.
