Even though I expected the workload in Medicine to be extremely high, there is a ridiculous number of pages that make up the weekly reading material. Of course, to put the cherry on top, it took me 2 months to actually learn how to orient myself in this monstrosity of a website they call Nestor. Nevertheless, once you figure out your way, you actually have the chance to appreciate the helpful professors, and the structure of the course, as topics are grouped together in a comprehensible manner. Once the adjustment period is over, the university experience is pretty straightforward, but still with prioritization of quantity of chapters over the quality of understanding, due to limited time. Also, as an international student, I feel like most of the professors are inclusive and welcoming, especially the coordinator of the English-speaking Learning Community.

If you want to do some extra lectures or courses half of them are only held in Dutch. Many committees and events only accept Dutch students. It feels like you are excluded because you are not Dutch. This is for extra stuff only though. The rest is alright.
View moreIt’s great because I don’t have too many contact hours so I can manage my time well. I also like the fact that we take an exam after each unit (every 3 to 4 weeks) so the material does not accumulate until the end of the year. More so, if you want to study more besides your main bachelors you can apply for the Honors College. There are also some things that aren’t so great like the fact that not all lectures are useful (some are kinda bad), the schedule is not fixed (so it’s hard to develop a routine around it) and the fact that we have to study very late at night (every monday and wednesday from 6 to 8 pm). Overall though the university (beyond just my faculty) is great. They offer very good deals for students such as cheap gym membership at the ACLO (huge sportscaster) and free Dutch language classes. I strongly recommend the University of Groningen for those who want to study not only Medicine but also other programs.
