    Great Program for Ambitious Students

Very pleasantly surprised! I decided on TU/e on a whim without putting too much thought into the details. I am studying Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and have really enjoyed the course and student life.

The courses (not just those in Chemistry) are structured in a way that combines lectures, and small group learning with tutors (generally PhD students) as well as hands-on learning. The tutor sessions are really helpful if you make sure to ask for the help you need, though my friends who never ask questions say they are a waste of time. Many courses have low pass rates, but I have found that they are totally passable if you just study the old exams and other material that is given. The academic advisors are always there to help and respond to emails within a few days (can only confirm this for the chemistry and physics department), and it really feels like they care about you and want you to succeed. I think on the academic side you get out as much as you put in, and help is given only when you ask for it.

The city is said to be quite ugly but I think that’s harsh. There is a lot of nature surrounding you, a beautiful path along the river that you can follow for 8km or more. It isn’t a stereotypical dutch city like Amsterdam but still very charming.

Onto the student life. The student associations all have different events almost on a weekly bases to go to, these range from a drink at the association’s bar to dinners and game nights. The nightlife is a little lacking, there is a street (stratum) that is filled with bars. Though it gets boring after the first few times. But Rotterdam, Utrecht, etc are all an hour or so away so there are still opportunities to go out in bigger cities. But you will be quite busy with your studies so going out won’t be your number one priority.

As an international, I was able to find a student house but it took a lot of searching and having a larger budget. But if you are not able to find housing, if you contact the university they do their best to provide you with either on-campus housing or from one of their partners.

Overall I have really enjoyed my studies so far and I think the uni is a perfect fit for someone who prioritizes their studies but still wants to have a student life. Just be aware that you need to be really on top of your studies as it is a fast-paced quarter system.

High research output university with lots of student amenities

The location of the university is such that it fits for the student academically and leisurely as surrounded by industries, career prospects and nice locations to visit surrounding the Netherlands. The student life in TU/e is hyperactive and student activities are held all-round the year be it the curriculum or extra-curriculum activities. A disciplined student can find a perfect balance between professional/student and personal/social life. The SportsCenter of the university has facilities like gym, swimming pool, access to all grounds and many other sports activities at an affordable price. Additionally, the city is so vibrant with international people that one can enjoy day outings when getting bored. The campus is very modern with the latest architectural buildings and accessible to students. The labs are well equipped with latest technology and types of equipment in collaboration with industries. The faculty is very dynamic and well informed about the industrial demands. The difficulties one can face here is accommodation and weather. Though measures are being taken to solve the accommodation scenario. As mentioned, due to industries nearby the career prospects are high. I would recommend TU/e to prospective individual.

The teaching style; specific department research and labs.

I am a new student at TUe and the experience has been so much better than expectations. I am a student in the Chemical Engineering Department and the labs here are extremely well equipped. The labs have the most modern equipment and the research conducted is all with the industrial link. The teaching styles of the professors here are very interactive and the way subjects have been designed they make sure that you understand the subject in depth and not just for the sake of an examination. The university library is also a view with the amount of literature we have access to it’s just amazing. I would recommend this university for everyone who wants to work and do some kind of research as the opportunities and exposure here is better than the best!

TU/e: An excellent platform for all round technical and holistic deveropment

I’d first heard of TU/e from a friend who was also applying for his masters in the field of Chemical Engineering. As a bachelors student from India, Eindhoven isn’t as famous as some of its other contemporaries, especially TU Delft. But after arriving here and having visited both universities, it is pretty evident that both universities are on par and are among the best Europe has to offer, especially for the field of Chemical engineering. The faculty are very approachable and give very concise feedback to the students various issues. The coursework is also generally challenging for any Master’s student in general, but it strives to prepare the students for the various technical fields. The facilities at TU/e, namely the research labs, classrooms, library and of course the several study rooms are state of the art and are accessible for most of the day for all students. TU/e’s sports centre has facilities for several sports and a well-equipped gym, the registration for all of which is fairly cheap.
Eindhoven is a very clean and nice city to live in. The local Dutch residents are very friendly, most of whom speak English. The one main drawback would be the difficulty in finding suitable accommodation, which is a prominent issue throughout the Netherlands. Student culture is very refreshing owing to a large number of international students.
On a technical note, TU/e is renowned in several ranking systems for its collaboration with industry, leading to good career prospects for its students. So, I would definitely recommend TU/e for your overall development, both the academic and non-academic fields.

TU/e: A good platform for education on a professional and personal level

I am an international student from India and I basically joined TU/e for not only its renowned level of education but also its welcoming attitude towards international students. The decision to come here has undoubtedly been one of the best decisions I have taken in my life towards a better career. The education techniques, exams and approach towards any subject at the university has always been application based (instead of just theory based) which has helped me a lot in understanding the use of this knowledge in actual industrial or research problems. It has also been announced that the university would be changing its official language to english in 2020 but the Masters Programme has been delivered in english for several years now. From my personal experience, I would say that it has been a life-changing and a good experience to step out of my comfort zone to go to a new country and and try to set up a new life here. Although the university has several international students on campus and many committees and other sports or recreational activities to increase the communication between the dutch and the international students, at the end of the day it depends on the student on how much he/she can open up to others and adjust to the new surroundings. I have personally learnt a lot from this experience as well. Overall my experience at TUe has been quite educational and eye-opening on both personal and professional levels.

    Intensive yet enriching student life.

I got to know about the ‘Brainport’ of Netherlands and Eindhoven region’s reputation as a hub of top-notch companies and bustling business centre during my bachelors. I chose TU/e because of its innovative culture in research as well as in industry. Moreover, the reputation of chemical engineering is immense. The course structure is in such a way that a student gets to design his/her master’s programme by choosing courses that interest the individual and academic activities which have to be approved by the mentor or academic advisor. The faculty is approachable and appreciate constructive interactions. With all the modern state of the art campus and amenities, the research output of the university at par with top-grade institutions. Due to a large number of internationals coming in, the student culture is great. The curriculum of the university will keep you on your toes. Eindhoven as a city has a moderate cost of living, student-friendly amenities, networking opportunities and vibrant culture. The only issue faced as a student is finding accommodation in Eindhoven as the large inflow of internationals.

Small University in the friendly and innovative environment of Brabant

Let me start by explaining the impact of the location on the way the TU/e is governed. Brabant is known for being easygoing, more specifically Eindhoven is a city but feels more like a town where everybody knows each other. You can feel this as soon as you enter the Campus. Every faculty has their so called student counselling where there is a meeting between the head of education and students who can give comment on specific courses, exams or just the way the professor teaches.

Moreover, the faculty of chemistry and chemical engineering is small, approximately 100 freshmen every year. This means you know everybody and almost all the professors. But more important they will know you. This also results in a good level of education throughout the TU/e.

In general the electives you can choose are restricted but you already have more freedom compared to other universities. You are free to choose electives form other faculties. Because it is a technical university all the courses are more beta related. You will learn about catalysis, optimizing chemical reactors and material science. During the first year of your bachelor you will have a broad array of courses, in order to give you a basic idea what you can do with chemistry and chemical engineer. During your second and third year you start choosing electives which you like in the field you like. During your third year you start planning for you bachelor thesis.

The student life is busy, there are three student associations and every program has its own study association. These associations are not comparable with the associations in USA. They are much smaller and you don’t have to pay an incredible sum of money to become a member. If you don’t think that is something for you, there are many other options. You can become a member of one of the many student teams, the most well known being Solar Team Eindhoven.

Overall TU/e is an university where everything is possible as long as you know what you want to do and what you would like to achieve.
