Studying GIS at Lund University, Sweden was a valuable experience overall, though it came with both highlights and areas for growth. The course offered solid theoretical grounding in spatial data, remote sensing, and cartographic principles, supported by experienced faculty who are clearly passionate about the subject.
Practical lab sessions using tools like QGIS were engaging and relevant. However, I felt the course could benefit from more advanced programming integration, particularly with Python for geospatial automation, to better prepare students for today’s data-driven industry.
The international student environment at Lund enriched classroom discussions with diverse perspectives, which I found genuinely inspiring. Access to research databases and university resources was excellent.
Overall, I believe this program provides a strong foundation in GIS. With a few curriculum updates, it has the potential to be among the top geospatial programs in Europe. I recommend it with that context in mind.
