Being away from home is daunting and it is no different being at Rhodes University as a foreign student. Not much is considered in terms of being away from home,so it is a challenge and a half to find your way at first. My first year was not far from interesting, apart from it being my first time in South Africa, I met an interesting location in which Rhodes University is located. Grahamstown/Makhanda is a small town situated in the Eastern Cape, more of a rural settlement so don’t be surprised meeting a donkey or two on your way to class(it is very normal). Amongst a number of things to find at Rhodes University including significant monuments, donkeys, mountains and maybe to mention a drought, it is a fairly small campus so most of my classes are usually in close proximity to each other which is a plus. In term of studying you are strictly to graduate with 2 majors under the field of study of your choice.I can’t personally say that I am an endorser of this approach as I feel it restricts a person to a particular field, providing less room for versatility e.g a student can select 2 majors in the science field as they may select a BSc, any other subjects from a different field are pretty much redundant in your degree and will not provide adequate credits if studied as your 2 majors
