I really love how this university is long distance learning. It provides student with the opportunity to work while they are busy with their studies and gain skills. But because it has a very high number of students, things tend to take a while in contrast to other traditional universities. Like our exams marks take time, and issuing completion letter takes time, also the registration period is kind of a hassle.
View moreStudying LLB at UNISA as a third-year student has been both challenging and deeply rewarding. From the start, what stood out for me was the programme’s ability to push students to become independent, disciplined, and self-motivated. Unlike a traditional classroom, distance learning requires you to take full responsibility for your own progress, which has helped me grow not just academically, but personally as well.
The flexibility that UNISA offers has been invaluable, allowing me to balance my studies with work, family responsibilities, and other commitments. At the same time, the workload is rigorous. Modules like Constitutional Law, Law of Evidence, Criminal Procedure, African Customary Law, and Family Law have required intensive reading, critical thinking, and strong analytical skills. These subjects have not only broadened my understanding of South African law but have also challenged me to think critically about the law’s impact on society and human rights—something I am deeply passionate about.
What has impressed me most is the programme’s emphasis on practical legal reasoning and research. Through assignments and case studies, I’ve developed skills in legal writing, research, and problem-solving, which I know will be essential for my future career. While administrative processes and the online portal can sometimes be frustrating, the overall experience has been formative and empowering.
UNISA has shown me that pursuing law is not just about memorizing rules, but about understanding the law’s role in shaping justice, protecting rights, and addressing societal challenges. Despite the difficulties of distance learning, I am grateful for the knowledge, discipline, and resilience I have gained. This journey has reinforced my commitment to human rights and to using my legal education to make a meaningful impact in the lives of women, children, and vulnerable communities.
Overall, studying LLB at UNISA is demanding, but it is an incredibly rewarding journey that equips students with the skills, perspective, and resilience needed to succeed in law and in life.

View moreUNISA has always been a distance learning tertiary education platform for students. It is a fully functional online University which provides all the necessary study materials for any course you take. Be it a certification, Diploma, Degree, Masters, PhD etc. They’ve got you covered! What I loved most about it, is that it is very affordable compared to other institutions. They also work together with student funders. They provide data and sometimes laptops to students for free! You’re also invited to attend your graduation ceremonies in person regardless of it being an online institution. You have our own portal and can reach out to tutors at any time. Head offices also respond to queries when need be. It’s brilliant and so much more with thousands of students from all over the globe!
View moreStudying at Unisa was the best choice I made, but I struggled to stay focused because I had children. As a result, I ended up failing my courses, and now NSFAS refuses to pay for me. I owe the university money as well. So, my advice is to stay focused. I have seen many successful people from Unisa!
