Far out from Johannesburg. In a university town. Nice campus, lots of activities and sports. Feels like a real university experience. There’s residences. Everyone is very focused on their academics and having fun. It helps to have a car.

The place is well maintained.Beautiful scenery and lecture halls.
I ddn’t get to enjoy this much because the programme I was doing was hard for me and it wasn’t my intial choice. So most of my uni days there were filled with stress and anxiety. I would read and understand the course material but when exams and practicals came I failed to apply the theory. So all in all my experience wasn’t that pleasant academically.

The research facilities and support offered by the teaching staff are unmatched. Additionally, there’s a good database to refer to for inspiration and identified gaps in previous studies. Thanks to the University of Pretoria, my passion for research has been fine-tuned and I believe I’d be making great waves by contributing immensely to the field of Artificial intelligence.

Course

The BSc Computer Science at Pretoria id argue is the best in the country content wise but comes with some flaws.

The computer science department can be extremely unreasonable with the way they carry the course. most universities computer science degrees have about minimum 140 credits that need to be completed in a year but Pretoria is a bit excessive having about 170 in first year which translates to 1700 study hours for the year.

Some modules presented by some notorious lectures can be excessively difficult for no reason. In 2022 a hardcore lecturer presented the into programming course which had a high failure rate because he wanted to filter out the weaklings. A large group on students had to add a year to their studies because of this one module.

The n 1 requirement puts too much pressure on students to complete their degrees as they only have 4 years to complete it but on average it takes 4.5 years to complete a computer science degree at UP.

To some it all the BSc computer science degree is great but has some flaws. the curriculum is the best for anyone who has a passion for computer science related modules only and doesn’t want to major in other irrelevant modules.
