I’ve studied in my bachelor and I’m concluding my master in the Faculdade de Psicologia e Ciências da Educação da Universidade de Coimbra.
I would highlight mostly the academic culture which is so unique around this universty, namely: Repúblicas de Coimbra; Autonomous Organisms and Sections of Associação Acádemica de Coimbra, etc. Something to be aware is praxe, which is a conservative academic culture of “integration” that ends up in humiliating and degrading treatment of the 1st year students.
Regarding education, I believe in my studies I had access to relevant and updated information in diversified fields of my area. Although, it seems that the design of most courses is mostly directed to people who pursue a research-career.
Professors in my path were mostly nice and humane, which is really important.
The social services are good, there’s load of cafeterias and food is good and acessible for everyone’s pockets. There’s not much beds in student’s residencies, in fact, these have been decreasing in the recent times. In this context of housing instability Repúblicas shed light in a really interesting form of livelihood and communitary life, and a viable solution for acessible housing.
Concluding, I enjoy very much studying here.
