The Cultural Management MA at the Faculty of Human Sciences barely covers actual management — the key subject was a rushed 2-week crash course with a substitute teacher, and we got zero feedback on my final project. Very fee-heavy and bureaucratic; I requested a master’s extension two months early, followed up ten times, and it was only approved after I’d already missed the deadline.
Grading is strict, which is nice but the program is far too theoretical for a practical field. The secondment was the one valuable, hands-on part, though it has no real university involvement beyond grading.
I can’t deny learning interesting things and improving in the academic field and some professors, especially my supervisor, were excellent professionals! But would suggest major reconstruction of the program to be actually useful, especially for the tuition fees that I’m paying. Overall productive, disorganised and disappointing experience.
As an international student there wasn’t any problem! Portuguese people are very friendly and my social life is perfect, accommodation is easy to find and the university provides very useful language courses, for which you pay additionally.
