A business cannot survive if its products are not marketed in the proper way. Luckily for all the businesses out there, the number of candidates wanting to pursue a marketing career is growing tremendously.
The aim of this degree is to help students anticipate, manage, and satisfy customers’ needs and wants. By doing so, they will be able to effectively communicate the benefits of any business product to the targeted market.
Due to the fact that marketing is a complex industry, which tackles many areas ranging from market research to advertising and promotion, this degree focuses on all parts of the process before concentrating on a particular area of study.
Good news for marketing graduates! If you did not know yet, marketing is an essential aspect of all types of businesses, from all sectors of activity. Thus, all of them rely on marketers to promote and sell their products. A high market demand comes with many job opportunities available.
According to Labor Department Findings, graduates with a marketing degree can earn 98% more per hour than the ones working in the industry without having a specialised degree.
Furthermore, students are equipped with transferable skills, such as excellent communication abilities, strategic thinking, planning, data analysis and so on, that can be used in other industries too.
Marketing degrees can be studied either as Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc). The major difference lies in the presence of more scientific and technological aspects, which are commonly seen in a BSc rather than a BA.
Like most degrees, marketing courses last between three and four years, depending on the university. However, there are institutions which give students the possibility to do a two-year associate’s degree – also called a ‘foundation’ degree.
Even if graduating from both degrees qualifies candidates to work in this industry, a Bachelor degree has higher chances to lead you to well-paid jobs.
Universidade do Minho is renowned for its academic prowess and diverse cultural offerings, providing students with an enriching educational experience. Boasting state-of-the-art facilities and esteemed faculty members, it creates a vibrant learning environment situated in the bustling city of Braga, making it an ideal destination for higher education. Thus far, my program has proven to be comprehensive and beneficial for my career trajectory. Additionally, the well-organized programs offer students various avenues to customize their education according to their individual interests and aspirations.
View moreClasses’ content is well structured and with good teachers. Facilities and the university, in general, are bad. The ones in charge are a problem too since there’s a lack of resources and help. Would recommend the university but advise caution.
View moreIn my opinion, I believe that the Marketing course program manages to give an overview of management, communication and other subjects that I consider important for general knowledge of business and the market. If I could improve, it would be to increase the practical and internship component, have two more modules on digital marketing, and something deeper on copywriting and multimedia.
In general, the university has all the conditions for study, logistics, and resources to train any student in any area.
Since my area is Marketing, I liked my apprenticeship program, as it involved several areas, from entrepreneurship, relational marketing, direct marketing, sales force management, among other interesting areas such as accounting and finance.
In addition to this, the School of Economics and Management at the University of Minho had several free workshops for its students, from skills development in design programs to Excel, among others.
I’m studying Marketing, it’s a relatively new course at our university. I feel that there is a lack of more direct contact with the job market and with companies. The practical part is also missing, the course is too theoretical. When we got to the job market, we weren’t able to meet the employer’s demands.
View moreAbout the programme itself: we should learn more practical stuff, more things about digital marketing. Lack of professors with experience in the industry. The internship should be mandatory.
What I liked most: students and student life, a thing we call “praxe”, a way to integrate people.
View moreOne of the best universities in the world! However, there are some points that need improvement, namely, some professors who have no work experience in their teaching areas which sometimes gives students a wrong view of what the market is expecting from us, as professionals
View moreThe programme was still in the beginning, but the best was without doubt the people I met.
I know that programme is better now, it is still very connected with management. The contact with companies is very low.
I loved studying at the University of Minho!
the school offers excellent teaching and excellent conditions. the teachers are amazing! 3 very happy years.
I recommend! I hope to go back to the master.
The University of Minho as a whole is an institution that I really enjoyed attending and in which I grew a lot on a personal level. It has an amazing university atmosphere.
However, as a Marketing student at the School of Economics and Management (EEG), I have to point out that the Marketing course is far from being a course that offers students sufficient resources to leave them prepared for the job market. in my personal opinion, it would need an adjustment in the teaching chairs and the replacement of some teachers who were not up to the challenge. I really missed the practical component of the course, which would give me enough experience to finish the degree with more confidence.
