Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań - UAM (reviews)

I learnt a lot at this university, and overall had a good experience. Most of the staff were very student-friendly and supportive. However, some were absolutely abhorrent, especially those at the top of the food chain, which made the whole experience much worse than it could have been. Overall, I liked studying there, but my mental health suffered.

In my opinion, Adam Mickiewicz University is a very solid institution, especially if you are interested in humanities, social sciences, or academic research. It has a good reputation, strong research facilities, and international connections, which provide significant opportunities for academic development.

As for the drawbacks — the biggest challenges may be bureaucracy and administrative procedures, as well as the cost of accommodation, especially for international students. Therefore, it is worth carefully analyzing the faculties, the programme, and the housing options before starting your studies.

Great people and overall school program, a lot of opportunities for people who have more interest outside of school also professors are really great, understanding, and they want to help students and areas that need improvement

Reputation and teaching quality—it’s one of the best universities in Poland, and it’s clear that many of the programs are of a high standard. I’m currently studying [you can enter your program here], and most of the lecturers are knowledgeable, and some are truly inspiring.

✅ A wide selection of majors and specializations—you can study virtually anything at Adam Mickiewicz University: from philology to psychology to computer science. There’s something for everyone.

✅ The city — Poznań is a great place to study. There’s a lot going on, plenty of places to go out, apartments aren’t as expensive as in Warsaw, and the Adam Mickiewicz University campuses are conveniently located.

✅ People and atmosphere – I’ve met a lot of great people here, there are study groups, events, and even if you want to develop beyond your studies, there are plenty of opportunities.

Cons:

❌ Bureaucracy—this is the biggest drawback of this university. Departments operate very differently, and sometimes it’s difficult to find information, or you have to run around with paperwork like in communist Poland. Communication with the dean’s office can be a nightmare.

❌ Varying levels of faculty—unfortunately, there are also those who completely lack student-centeredness or treat classes as a necessary evil. It all depends on the course and your luck.

❌ Some buildings are outdated—although Collegium Novum or the Morasko campus look modern, there are also classrooms that date back to the Gierek era. And sometimes the equipment in classes could be newer.

❌ Organizing classes can be challenging. Plans can be made at the last minute, and some classes clash. You need to learn patience and flexibility 😅
