Studying pharmacy at the university of Uyo has been both rewarding and challenging. Before I got admission to study pharmacy, I was of the opinion that pharmacy is basically counting of drugs and dispensing drugs to patients. I was able to relate to a lot of courses in my first year because they were basically science courses like biology, physics and chemistry. I mean, I learnt that in secondary school. But in my second year, I realized that pharmacy is more than just counting of drugs. I was introduced to foreign courses like pharmacognosy, clinical pharmacy, pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmaceutical microbiology.
Pharmacognosy was where I learnt that one medicinal product can have ten constituents. The collection of medicinal plants was a gab between practice and theory.I also learnt incantation and other things that made me embrace herbal practice. Pharmaceutics on the other hand made me realize that pharmacist literally correct prescription mistakes made by physicians. Like, the clean up the mess they never created and if they don’t do it right, they are jailed for it. That was when I realized that pharmacy is indirectly a one way ticket to jail. Scary right? I was scared too. But that is why we being taught communication skills, attention to details, manner of approach because as a pharmacist you can’t afford to make mistakes.
However, there is room for improvement in terms of infrastructure. The large class size made it difficult to get individual attention. Despite these challenges, the experience has helped me build problem-solving skills and resilience.
I would recommend this programme to students passionate about healthcare and pharmaceutical sciences.
View moreUniversity of Uyo wasn’t my dream institution but I’m grateful I ended up here. The constant need to ensure student’s comfort and security by ensuring the availability of light, furnished class rooms, and security checks at all gates makes me so in love with my institution. However, the mentally stressing educational system does not seat well with me, in that my faculty timetable did not give enough room for rest as we had chained lectures and students in-considering examination timetable. I hope for changes in the future but I would gladly recommend University of Uyo to anyone because of its ability to impact on students both in learning and in character.
View moreI studied pharmacy at the University of Uyo where I graduated 10 years ago. I am in contact with some current students and I was shocked to learn that not much has changed in the curriculum. The pharmaceutical industry is very dynamic with new discoveries being documented regularly, as such if the curriculum is not being updated to meet up with the industry, how then can students be expected to compete internationally?. This worries me a lot. The lack of modern infrastructure means students are lagging behind in practicals.
Now to the good part which is the social activities. I love that social life on campus is still great as I’ve been told and different clubs and social events like sports clubs, debate clubs, campus radio etc. are still active.
View moreThey university offers quality education.
With well trained lecturals.
I love the university because they don’t called black white.
I dislike the fact that they easily give first class honor At graduation.
The University has three different campuses currently and they are all large and spacious. They try to make sure that every student is comfortable. The school management needs to do better with the issue of no light during weekends.
View moreEndless strikes have made it horrible. The facilities are okay but their dorm is not okay. There is no online lecture service and the classrooms are mostly crowded. The health centre is okay and the sports facilities are not quite okay.
View moreI like that the fees are really affordable. There are some really knowledgeable and skilled lecturers that care about student’s welfare and there are some who do not care. The student- to-student relationship is good though.
View moreI would like an improvement to the accommodation facilities for male students… And also accomodation facilities for pharmacy students as their curriculum is apart from the whole school…. The cafeteria should be reinnovated and revamped
