What Is an Economics Degree?

Are you passionate about the business and finance sector? Do you follow the national and international news? Then, an Economics degree is the answer. It has always been one of the most sought-after degrees amongst youth.

Economics degrees are designed to tackle all the issues that have an impact on financial situations, ranging from production to how resources are used. Candidates are trained to understand how the economy suffers fluctuations based on the market’s needs and wants followed by the market’s supply and demand.

By far one of the most crucial elements is that economics is divided into microeconomics and macroeconomic. Microeconomics deals with the economic behaviour at an individual level (companies, buyers, sellers and others), whilst macroeconomics illustrates the bigger picture, on a national or global scale (unemployment, economic growth, inflation and so on).

Benefits of an Economics Degree

Having an economics degree increases anyone’s chances to find a job, regardless of the field. This is mainly due to the fact that graduates hold many transferable abilities, such as analytical and problem-solving skills, that are suitable for any career.

A study made by the London School of Economics and Political Science showed that graduates from an economics course have a starting salary of £33,000 per year. Having a job in the field right after graduation is a major positive aspect and comes with a lot of opportunities for career advancement.

Economics Degree Structure

Economics degrees are usually a three years commitment and sometimes are offered as part of a joint degree. This means that Economics can be studied along with another subject such as engineering, management, law, computer science and others.

This degree can be found either as a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Arts (BA). The BSc focuses more on economical theory and statistical techniques, while BA is combined with social sciences and qualitative modules.

I did master of BusinessAdministration (MBA).

It is a good university. What i like is how i will be engaging students remotely. I will be able to interact with other students across the globe

Again there will be no physical meeting with the students. This will be a challenge

    Beyond the Brochure

First and foremost, the university’s rich academic environment provided me with unparalleled opportunities for learning and growth. The esteemed faculty members, renowned for their expertise and dedication, fostered an environment of intellectual curiosity and critical thinking. Whether it was engaging lectures, thought-provoking seminars, or hands-on practical sessions, every academic endeavor was a stepping stone towards personal and professional development.

Beyond academics, the vibrant campus life at the University of Nairobi offered a plethora of extracurricular activities to enrich my university experience. From participating in student clubs and societies to attending cultural events and sports competitions, there was never a dull moment on campus. These activities not only helped me expand my social circle but also nurtured valuable leadership and teamwork skills that would prove invaluable in my future endeavors. For these reasons I would highly recommend any individual with a desire to join the University of Nairobi to do so as they are in for a wonderful and enlightening experience.

EXPERIENCE AT THE UNIVERSUTY OF NAIROBI

My experience at the University of Nairobi was enriching and transformative. The university provided a vibrant academic environment with knowledgeable professors who encouraged critical thinking and innovation. I particularly appreciated the diverse student body, which fostered cultural exchange and broadened my perspectives. The campus facilities were well-maintained, and there were ample opportunities for extracurricular activities. However, administrative processes could sometimes be cumbersome, requiring patience and perseverance. Overall, I would highly recommend the University of Nairobi to anyone seeking a quality higher education experience in East Africa.

    Teo's time at UoN

The university was great, I learnt a lot and I grew in a lot of spheres. I learned how to leverage data to solve problems in the world using machine learning and artificial intelligence. The university creates a conducive environment by hosting hackathons and sessions with potential employers to prepare students for the outside world.

Making the most out of Higher Education

The University of Nairobi is a world class university committed to scholarly excellence (Not my words but the exact definition of the institution) This even though often used in jest among people that have gone through the institution is in all senses true.

Strategically located in the busy capital, the University primarily brings students from different parts of the country and abroad, ensuring a rich cultural diversity and subsequent cross-cultural exchanges that are most useful for wholesome human growth. The institution has an unmatched reputation for research and libraries that are well stocked with literature and perfectly designed for study. This means enough human and material resource for one to grow their academic muscle.

The one thing however I almost learnt late from the University is that higher education is almost 90 percent personal initiative and 10 percent external push. What this means is that the professors only whet your appetite for knowledge and leave you to go satisfy it. The good thing is that resources to achieve this are available in plenty.

There are numerous groups one can join from sports clubs to student associations to scholar panels. It goes without saying thus the University affords the student the opportunity to build meaningful networks, access world class education and at the same time enjoy life to the fullest, but there is a catch, 99 percent of the time, no body will tell you this:) You’ve gotta take initiative.

    Crowded. Difficult to learn

Despite its reputation and status as the best university in Kenya, I found the University of Nairobi to be crowded and lacking in terms of providing a conducive learning environment.
One of the most bothering issue was the overcrowding. The lecture halls were consistently packed with students, making it difficult to concentrate or actively engage in the learning process.
