What Is an Economics Degree?

Are you passionate about the business and finance sector? Do you follow the national and international news? Then, an Economics degree is the answer. It has always been one of the most sought-after degrees amongst youth.

Economics degrees are designed to tackle all the issues that have an impact on financial situations, ranging from production to how resources are used. Candidates are trained to understand how the economy suffers fluctuations based on the market’s needs and wants followed by the market’s supply and demand.

By far one of the most crucial elements is that economics is divided into microeconomics and macroeconomic. Microeconomics deals with the economic behaviour at an individual level (companies, buyers, sellers and others), whilst macroeconomics illustrates the bigger picture, on a national or global scale (unemployment, economic growth, inflation and so on).

Benefits of an Economics Degree

Having an economics degree increases anyone’s chances to find a job, regardless of the field. This is mainly due to the fact that graduates hold many transferable abilities, such as analytical and problem-solving skills, that are suitable for any career.

A study made by the London School of Economics and Political Science showed that graduates from an economics course have a starting salary of £33,000 per year. Having a job in the field right after graduation is a major positive aspect and comes with a lot of opportunities for career advancement.

Economics Degree Structure

Economics degrees are usually a three years commitment and sometimes are offered as part of a joint degree. This means that Economics can be studied along with another subject such as engineering, management, law, computer science and others.

This degree can be found either as a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Arts (BA). The BSc focuses more on economical theory and statistical techniques, while BA is combined with social sciences and qualitative modules.

    Missing Grades

My experience at the University of Nairobi was far from smooth, and I believe it reflects the reality many students face in public universities. One of the most frustrating challenges was the issue of missing marks — where coursework or exam grades would not be recorded, often due to lecturer turnover or administrative mishandling. This wasn’t a minor inconvenience as it sometimes delayed students’ progress by up to two years and even delayed graduation.
The challenge taught me patience and resiliency. And while I value the education I received there, I believe the University can improve in its academic record-keeping and student support systems.

    Amazing Opportunity

I had the amazing opportunity to study Bcom St University of Nairobi, Kabete Campus.
It is a really good University with a diversity of students and student leaders. The lecturers took their time and explained when the students didn’t understand. They were very supportive.
I like the fact that there are many people who we have that studied there. Prolific people such as doctors and even governors.
I would definitely recommend this University to the students who are looking for an amazing opportunity.

    Acquiring crucial knowledge and skills

The University of Nairobi is a world class university which has helped me grow especially in my communication skills. I have been able to learn about the economy of our country as well as the economies of other countries around the world and how these economies came to grow. The lectures teach very very well ensuring concepts are well understood. I would only encourage the University to improve its accomodation facilities which can do with some renovation.

LIFE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI

The University of Nairobi is a prestigious institution, which bears so much authenticity to it, with nurturing of skills and molding of character one of it’s core objectives, things which I have really leverage don throughout the period that I have been at the University of Nairobi. With less than a year to graduate ,I can say that I have an adequate experience of how the whole place is. The lecturers are very qualified, something which they directly translate to lecture halls, judging by the proficiency of how they conduct lectures. Besides that, the boarding block is equally auspicious. Spacious, clean and conducive environments around the hostels are more than what any other normal student can get. A very enabling environment for one to learn. The case is akin with the meal points round the campus. They are quite affordable and very accommodating for students which even makes their lives more easier. Different factors are also enabled for building a success story for anyone at the University of Nairobi, including Research centers in every faculty, massive libraries for every UoN campus, and staff who are always welcoming and ready to support you in whichever way they can.

The pulse of learning and life.

I was given the opportunity to explore different career paths due to the variety of study options the University of Nairobi offered me, allowing me to explore different subjects and engage in interdisciplinary studies that made my academic experience vibrant. But the course load did a number on me, balancing a heavy course load with life outside of school was challenging, but the thrill of it all kept me motivated! The enthusiastic and positive environment around me, ranging from the lecturers, to the support staff to my fellow students was truly inspiring. I looked forward to different lectures and working with passionate peers so much that I decided to go back there to do my MBA.Did I mention that the facilities are top notch? Yes, they are. The lecturers are also beyond qualified. As I do my MBA in the same institution, the only thing that has changed is the increase in positively in that amazing institution.

POSITIVE EXPERIENCE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI.

The University of Nairobi is actually one of the best campuses in Kenya. Due to its commitment to education and raising better researchers, I selected it as my top choice.
What I like about this university outweighs the dislikes. First, I like the order of studies provided by the lecturers; indeed, it’s perfect. Secondly, it discourages crime, corruption, and gender inequality through strict rules.
My dislikes about this university may be appealing to someone who prefers extensive studies and research. I would recommend anyone in need of better performance and knowledge to feel free to come to the mighty University of Nairobi.
