My time at Daystar University really showed me what it means for an institution to be student centered. One thing I’ll never forget is how they handled the lockdown period in Kenya. While everything was shutting down, Daystar didn’t skip a beat and moved us immediately to Zoom and Google Meet. Because they were so prepared, we never lost time and were able to graduate right on schedule, which was a huge relief compared to what students in other universities were facing.
The environment itself is perfect if you’re someone who needs a quiet place to focus. Since the campus is tucked away from the noisy parts of the city, it’s incredibly peaceful and conducive for studying. The infrastructure is solid and well maintained, though I’d tell anyone joining that you should definitely plan your transport or stay on campus since being away from the noise also means being a bit further out from the city center.
The lecturers are probably the best part because they don’t just teach and leave; they are actually there to assist whenever you’re stuck. If you’re coming into the communication department, my advice is to get into the labs as early as possible. The facilities are great for hands on learning, but you have to be proactive to get the most out of them. It’s a balanced experience where you get a lot of support, provided you’re willing to put in the work and engage with the community.

My time at Daystar University was genuinely fulfilling and gave me a well-rounded experience, even though it wasn’t perfect.

I studied communication there—both diploma and degree—which gave me the chance to attend classes at both the Athi River and Nairobi campuses. That experience really broadened my perspective and exposed me to different learning environments.

Campus life was one of my favorite parts. There was a real sense of community, and it was easy to get involved, make friends, and feel like you belonged.

Like any university, there were a few challenges along the way, but they didn’t take away from the overall experience. Looking back, Daystar didn’t just educate me—it played a big role in shaping who I am today.

I’d honestly recommend it to anyone looking for a place where they can grow academically, spiritually, and socially, while also building meaningful friendships and lasting memories.
