What Is an Economics Degree?

Are you passionate about the business and finance sector? Do you follow the national and international news? Then, an Economics degree is the answer. It has always been one of the most sought-after degrees amongst youth.

Economics degrees are designed to tackle all the issues that have an impact on financial situations, ranging from production to how resources are used. Candidates are trained to understand how the economy suffers fluctuations based on the market’s needs and wants followed by the market’s supply and demand.

By far one of the most crucial elements is that economics is divided into microeconomics and macroeconomic. Microeconomics deals with the economic behaviour at an individual level (companies, buyers, sellers and others), whilst macroeconomics illustrates the bigger picture, on a national or global scale (unemployment, economic growth, inflation and so on).

Benefits of an Economics Degree

Having an economics degree increases anyone’s chances to find a job, regardless of the field. This is mainly due to the fact that graduates hold many transferable abilities, such as analytical and problem-solving skills, that are suitable for any career.

A study made by the London School of Economics and Political Science showed that graduates from an economics course have a starting salary of £33,000 per year. Having a job in the field right after graduation is a major positive aspect and comes with a lot of opportunities for career advancement.

Economics Degree Structure

Economics degrees are usually a three years commitment and sometimes are offered as part of a joint degree. This means that Economics can be studied along with another subject such as engineering, management, law, computer science and others.

This degree can be found either as a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Arts (BA). The BSc focuses more on economical theory and statistical techniques, while BA is combined with social sciences and qualitative modules.

    Seems receptive to foreign students

The university is managed efficiently, with a genuine focus on supporting student success. A standout feature is the career services team, who provide valuable guidance in securing internships and job opportunities. I also appreciate the wide variety of student clubs, which ensure there’s always an activity to join. It’s a fantastic way to connect with others and feel truly integrated into campus life.

    worth the recommendation.

People had been telling me about this university since high school – and for good reason! With programs covering everything from hard sciences to liberal arts, plus affordable tuition (with income-based discounts), it was an easy choice. I went with Cultural Heritage Studies, which gave me the perfect mix of history and geography.
    What’s great:
    • Tons of undergrad and graduate options
    • Many full English programs (big plus for international/Erasmus students)
    • Solid academic foundation overall
My only suggestion? The bachelor’s degrees could use more hands-on learning to balance the theory. But honestly? Zero regrets about choosing this school.

An Enriching Experience at the University

My time at the University of Milan was profoundly enriching. The professors were top-notch, providing exceptional instruction, and the campus’s prime location in the heart of the city added to the overall experience. The diverse range of courses offered in my building facilitated meaningful interactions with a variety of students. I wholeheartedly recommend this university to anyone passionate about economics.

    Strong Research based university

I started my master’s degree at Milan University this September. Although I am new at Unimi, I really appreciate professors approach to the program. They make you understand even complex examples with easy and practical ways. Moreover one of the most important factors is that some lectures have different research methods in order to deeply analyse even hard subjects. My degree is Economics and Political sciences so I strongly believe that at the end of my study I will be able to have solid and academic knowledge at both subjects in which could definitely help me for professional career.Overall, it is considered one of the most prestigious universities in Italy and facilities are easy reachable also well equipped.

    Understanding the world

When I chose this program, I had the idea of wanting to be the change in the world, and I learned I can, just in a different way than I expected. I thought I would want a huge career, but now I make the most of my study experience in my everyday life. I believe my curriculum was quite unorganized and, if you’re a part-time working student like me, it makes it hard to graduate on time. However, it’s worth taking your time, do it on your own terms, because it really taught me so much about how the world works: we underestimate the power of knowing subjects like history and politics. I had the chance to meet professors that were part of UN commissions and had such deep knowledge of international laws. I would probably recommend taking part in as many school organizations and activities as possible to live the full experience at UniMi.

    Quaility and equality

It is one of the best state universities in Italy. The professors and teaching staff are well qualified, and they make fair exams. It’s not so difficult or easy either. There are also online student platforms for professors who upload high-quality teaching materials. One of the best things about this university is that if you work, have a health problem, etc., you can take an exam as a non-attending student. Non-attending students’ exams are more difficult, but professors guide you well and supply perfect teaching materials. Most of them respond quickly to your email. I am a foreign student. I never faced discrimination. There are not any professors penalizing you for personal reasons. But, of course, the university also has cons. Its city university has no big student campus, just little faculties around the city, and there are not too many good events for socializing, but fortunately, the majority of faculties are in the best zones in Milan. Another con is that some courses are a little bit theoretical, and there are not that many interesting seminars every time.

    My opinion

Very welcoming environment, friendly and helpful lecturers and students and fairly well taught languages (perhaps the least valid is English), some problem of overlapping between courses and exam sessions.

    A good public education

I am very satisfied with the university course I attended last years. I surely would recommend it. __I am very satisfied with my university course. I would definitely recommend it to those who want to stay in a state university.
