One of the youngest universities in Germany and achieved popularity in a short time is The Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH). It was founded in 1978, located in Harburg, south of Hamburg. The university has separate administrations for teaching and research. Research is conducted in departments, teaching is divided into schools of study.
The TUHH became the pioneer German university in modular courses and introduced the bachelor’s degree in General Engineering Science. They have first-class teaching and project-based learning at the heart of the university. Their main focus is Engineering which makes TUHH a top technical university.
In TUHH, there are many options to finance your study: funding and scholarship, part-time jobs and Bafog, a type of government funding for students in Germany. Furthermore, tuition fees were abolished in all public universities in Hamburg in 2012, that makes the TUHH University doesn’t charge tuition fees.

    A Fun and Creative Introduction

Participating in the ECIU micro-module “SE-CHOC: Transform a Conventional 3D Printer into a Functional Chocolate Printer” at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) was a unique and enjoyable learning experience. Although it was only a 1 ECTS course, it offered a great balance of creativity, engineering, and hands-on problem-solving.

The hybrid format made it convenient to participate while still allowing meaningful interaction with instructors and fellow students from different universities. I especially enjoyed learning how a conventional 3D printer could be modified to work with chocolate, combining concepts from mechanical design, electronics, and food technology in an innovative way.

The instructors were supportive and encouraged collaboration throughout the course. Working on practical tasks and exchanging ideas with an international group of students made the experience even more engaging. Despite the short duration, the module was well-organized and provided valuable insights into rapid prototyping and interdisciplinary innovation.

Overall, I would highly recommend this micro-module to students who enjoy engineering, creative design, and exploring unconventional applications of technology. It was a rewarding experience that showed how innovation can emerge from combining different fields in unexpected ways.

    Hands-on Industry 4.0 Micro-Module

The ECIU micro-module “Enabling Industry 4.0” at the Hamburg University of Technology (study period: 1 April 2026 – 6 May 2026) was a well-structured and highly practical blended learning experience worth 3 ECTS.

The module effectively introduced key Industry 4.0 concepts such as smart manufacturing, digitalisation, automation, and data-driven industrial systems. The online sessions provided a strong theoretical foundation, while the mandatory on-campus week (19–24 April 2026) was the highlight of the course, offering hands-on workshops, collaborative group work, and direct engagement with instructors and peers.

The blended format worked well overall, giving flexibility during the remote phase while ensuring intensive in-person learning during the campus week. Working with international students also added value, as it encouraged different perspectives and improved teamwork and communication skills.

The workload was manageable for 3 ECTS, but still required consistent effort, especially during the project-based components. Some topics were dense initially, but became clearer through practical application.

Overall, it is a highly relevant and modern micro-module for students interested in Industry 4.0, especially those looking to combine digital engineering concepts with real-world industrial applications in an international learning environment.

    Super canteen

Best food ever. Currywurst and fries were very cheap. Not far from other shops. I met some nice people and maybe learned a few things too. I’m enrolled for the discounts, to be honest.

    Overall good experience

I really liked most of the courses I have had so far, the cooperation for international students and the problem-based courses. Most of my teachers were experienced in their respective fields and provided insightful classes.
