Studying communication science and journalism at the Free University was a unique experience, as I started studying during the pandemic. It was hard to make any friends at first, and not every professor was well-adapted to teaching online, i.e., 3-hour-long pre-recorded lectures for a 90-minute lecture slot. However, most of the modules were interesting, and there was always a course that catered to my interests. The university also offers a range of sports courses for a very affordable price, and that’s where I met friends for life. The cafeteria also has good (and cheap!) food. Mostly vegetarian and vegan options, which, as a vegan, were amazing! The campus is quite far away from Berlin’s busy center, and there’s not much happening in the neighborhood, as it is mostly university buildings or residential housing, so keep that in mind when choosing to study here. However, the quality of the courses is great, and the university has a lot of libraries that could use some more comfy chairs. Still, it’s the best environment for writing your paper or bachelor’s/master’s thesis.

It has been a fantastic experience over the past six months since I enrolled at Freie Universität Berlin. The professors have been exceptionally supportive and approachable, always willing to provide guidance and engage in meaningful academic discussions. The university environment is both intellectually stimulating and welcoming, offering a great balance between academic rigor and personal growth. I’ve also appreciated the diversity on campus, which has allowed me to interact with students from different cultural and academic backgrounds. Overall, the atmosphere at FUB has been highly conducive to learning and has motivated me to excel in my studies.

I studied Business Administration at Freie Universität Berlin from 1992 to 1996. Looking back, it was an invaluable experience that shaped both my academic knowledge and personal development.

Academic Quality:
The university offers a broad and well-structured curriculum in business and economics. I particularly appreciated the mix of strong theoretical foundations and practical case studies. Many professors had international experience, which provided diverse perspectives and prepared us for a global career.

Campus

I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Freie Universität Berlin and look back on my time there with a great deal of appreciation. The program provided a solid foundation in core areas like finance, marketing, and strategic management, and I felt that the curriculum struck a good balance between theory and practical application.

One aspect I particularly valued was the diversity of the student body and the international orientation of the program. Many courses were taught in English, and I had the opportunity to work on group projects with students from various cultural and academic backgrounds. This not only improved my communication and teamwork skills but also broadened my perspective—something I’ve found highly valuable in a business environment.

The professors were generally approachable and open to discussion, especially in smaller seminar formats. While some lectures could have been more interactive, overall the teaching quality was strong, and there were plenty of opportunities to engage more deeply through electives and thesis work.

The university also offered good support when it came to internships and career planning. I was able to complete a meaningful internship during my studies, which helped me bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world business challenges.

All in all, studying BWL at Freie Universität Berlin was a formative experience. It gave me a strong academic foundation, the chance to grow personally and professionally, and the confidence to take the next steps in my career.
