The Chemnitz University of Technology was founded in thhe year 1836, and is being managed by Eberhard Alles (Chancellor) and Gerd Strohmeir (President) together with the 1468 academic staff and 808 adminstrative staff.
Initially, the Chemnitz University of Technology was named as the Royal Mercantile College. But was recently changed to the current name, when they started to be a technical school in the year 1986. I am extremely satisfied with the Master’s program in Automotive Software Engineering at Technische Universität Chemnitz, and I would confidently give it a full 5-star rating.
What stands out the most is how well-structured and industry-relevant the program is. The curriculum perfectly balances theoretical foundations with practical applications, especially in key areas like embedded systems, real-time systems, and automotive software development. Courses such as Autosar architecture, driver assistance algorithms, and car-to-car communication are highly aligned with current industry demands.
Another major strength is the flexibility in designing an individual study plan. Being able to choose electives across multiple domains, like image processing, multicore programming, and data security, allowed me to tailor my learning according to my career goals. The two-step planning process encourages students to think strategically about their entire academic journey, which I found very valuable.
The research internship and master thesis components are particularly impressive. They provide hands-on experience in scientific research, problem-solving, and technical documentation. The opportunity to work on real-world projects, sometimes even with companies, adds significant value and prepares students for both industry roles and doctoral studies.
I also appreciate the international accessibility of the program. Offering courses in both English and German, along with support like “German as a Foreign Language,” makes it inclusive for international students while still encouraging integration into the local environment.
Finally, the program’s strong connection to industry and research fields like Embedded Self-organizing Systems (ESS) ensures that students are learning cutting-edge technologies. The exposure to real automotive systems and collaboration with industry professionals truly enhances the learning experience.
