The Chemnitz University of Technology was founded in thhe year 1836, and is being managed by Eberhard Alles (Chancellor) and Gerd Strohmeir (President) together with the 1468 academic staff and 808 adminstrative staff.
Initially, the Chemnitz University of Technology was named as the Royal Mercantile College. But was recently changed to the current name, when they started to be a technical school in the year 1986. The Chemnitz University of Technology is currently offering different academic programs that are further grouped into 8 faculties:
