The one thing I can recommend is that university have so many opportunities for self study, but the lectures are very bad and unnecessary.
View moreI’m studying B.Sc. Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at RWTH Aachen. I’m currently in my 3rd semester. Although i find our subjects pretty hard to pass, i believe that this is the sign of quality education. I have troubles with some topics but our lecturers are always open to help and they also arrange online meetings to discuss our difficulties. What i also like is that you will have to choose a specific branch of your study after 2nd year, so that you’ll be more focused on your future area of expertise
View moreRWTH, at least for the micro and nano electronic studies have one of the best research facilities, and one can have a truly great learning experience, but… strangely enough this is not what one gets early in their bachelor studies.
Some of the professors can be slightly cold or unempathetic, and some of you may suffer through certain exams.
View moreThe university ranks high because of its research and amount of publications; when you actually are inside, you realize why: it is the only thing they care about. Teaching and pedagogic skills are non-existent, no practical experiences at all, and all student support services are so neglected that workers dont care anymore.
View moreThis university is extremely hierarchical, and students are at the very bottom of the scheme. If you dare to study here, expect no respect comming from professors, lecture assistants, administrative staff, etc. Furthermore, the university heavily “encourages” segregation of students and employees to interact only with people from “their same background”. In short, they will “encourage” you to take lectures given by professors from the same region you come, and when looking from supervisors for seminar, projects or thesis, they will “encourage” the same. Later if you dont follow this “recomendation” and complain about unfair or wrong behaviour from these employees, they will point out that you didnt followed their “recomendation”. Really disgusting place to stay overall.
View moreCUHK: The assessment of BME courses is mainly composed of 4 components: project, mid-term tests, assignments and written exams. The components have a certain weighting for the final grade, so they will be weighted to determine students’ final grades at the end of the course. In 1/2 introductory course, there is no written exam but only team / individual project, so the final grade, of course, totally depends on performance on project demonstration day. CUHK BME program does not ask students to complete the BME courses prior to graduation, students should pick 1 stream they want to focus on: Medical Device/ Medical Imaging/ Tissue Engineering
RWTH: There are no mid-terms or assignments to submit. The final grade of a course is totally determined by the score of the written exam. However, students must perform well to pass the laboratory session or practice session, in order to be qualified to sit for the exam.
The curriculum design of the BME program is comprehensive for student because I feel the design of compulsory courses are quite all-around: it covers biology, medicine, and engineering part and even reaches out to some Computer science part for medical imaging as well Artificial intelligence. Thus, the course is to guarantee the graduates should have sufficient technique and knowledge to take different roles in medical engineering in the different workplace, e.g Biomedical Engineer, or medical physicist
I took the condensed matter physics class, but the professor was not on top of the materials. She could not explain the concepts clearly, and when asked questions, she missed the key points. Luckily we got help from other senior students, otherwise, the whole class would have been wasted.
View moreGreat facilities, diverse resources and knowledge base. The various subjects offers can be taken advantage of to hone your skills. Good tie ups with the industry and amazing student life. The city is affordable to live in and student life is quite vibrant with lots of opportunities for fun as well as learning.
View moreI am a first-year student and I really enjoy studies and life in Aachen. There are many students in the Uni and hence many people to get known to. The Campus is spread all around the city. It is very easy to get a room in the dormitory, the city is not that big, but there are many other famous German cities around, you can get there for free by train.
View moreThe academic level is very high and the university offers a lot of opportunities for national and international students. The city is beautiful too. In my opinion, they should try to convince more female national students for MINT, but this is subjective.
