I love UCR, it changed my life. Thanks to this public university I could get higher education studies, I was granted a scholarship that allowed me to finish my bachelor’s degree in English. The career program has deficiencies, students are not encouraged to learn in the classroom, but to look for the material outside the classroom and learn for themselves. Education should occur inside the classroom, learning together is what changes the world, and even more with a language that requires the experience of embodying the knowledge to learn truly. Even though I wish many professors were more committed, I had exceptional professors with high humanistic values and excellent lectures. The artistic activities open to all of the students at the university changed my life. I enrolled in DanzÚ which is the university’s representative contemporary dance group. There, I truly changed my perspective on society, freedom, activism, kindness, and the transformational value of art in people’s lives. Nowadays, I have my artistic project where I teach from the place of love and transformation I could access thanks to the University of Costa Rica.
