Florida State University - FSU (reviews)

The community is wonderful, they just dont offer my major and we’re not very communicative about it. I ended up feeling like giving up. Thankfully I didn’t but im sure there’s loads of other kids who feel stuck because what they like is too niche.

Florida State University offers a supportive and academically rigorous environment with strong faculty, diverse research opportunities, and a collaborative campus culture. The university emphasizes practical learning, innovation, and student growth, making it a great place to develop both technical skills and professional confidence. Great campus environment.

The best part of attending FSU in Panama City, Florida, was the small class sizes. Professors were able to focus on students’ educational needs and cater their style of teaching towards that. I developed my public speaking skills greatly in such a comfortable and supportive environment.

Florida State University’s Technical Theatre program is truly a hidden gem for anyone passionate about working behind the scenes in theatre. One of the standout aspects of the program is just how hands-on it is from the very beginning. Whether you’re interested in lighting, sound, set design, costumes, or stage management, you’ll be gaining real-world experience in no time. The opportunities to get involved are endless—you’re not just learning theory in a classroom, you’re constantly applying it in productions, labs, and collaborative projects.

There’s no shortage of chances to build your resume and refine your skills. FSU puts on a wide variety of shows each semester, and students are encouraged to take on roles in every area of production. This gives you a chance to explore different interests and gain experience in areas you might not have originally considered.

The faculty are absolutely incredible. Every professor and instructor is passionate, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in your success. They bring a wealth of professional experience and are always approachable, offering guidance and mentorship both in and out of class. It really feels like they want you to grow—not just as a theatre artist, but as a person.

Class sizes are small enough that you don’t feel lost in the crowd. You get to know your professors and classmates well, which makes for a really supportive and collaborative learning environment. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly; it’s easy to make friends and feel like part of a community from day one.

If you’re looking for a program where you’ll be challenged, supported, and constantly learning, FSU’s Technical Theatre program is a perfect choice. The combination of hands-on experience, dedicated faculty, and a warm, inclusive atmosphere makes it an amazing place to grow both professionally and personally.
