My experience at York University is one that will stick with me forever. I learned everything from the good to the bad. One of the greatest experiences I took with me is the people I met. I had visited many Universities and York, by far, was the most diverse. From race, gender, social class, and religion, it was nearly impossible to clique with your own “kind”. I met some amazing professors who didn’t just value my education, but my personhood as well.
When I got accepted to this school I had to choose between two different programs, and the one I went with was new and not yet established. While it created some opportunities it also created some challenges as well. Simultaneously, I experienced my first strike which proved to be the most stressful time. What got me through it was the friends I made from the school.
Overall, I would say York was a decent experience. Discussing my friends’ experiences with their different universities I learned that no matter the rating or prestige of the school, as students, we all sort of suffered the same, and succeeded the same.
