    TMU review

I like the opportunities TMU provides and there’s a lot of ways to grow and get involved. The campus is nice and being downtown gives you access to a lot. But one thing I think could be better is some of the professors. A few of them have really strong accents and it can be hard to understand sometimes, which makes learning more difficult.

    Amazing Student Experience

My experience at this university has been positive overall. What stands out most is the range of academic and extracurricular opportunities available to students. The courses allow students to explore different perspectives, and many professors are knowledgeable, approachable, and genuinely invested in helping students succeed.

I especially appreciate the emphasis on practical learning, community involvement, and connecting classroom concepts to real-world issues. The campus environment offers many opportunities to get involved through clubs, events, and student organizations, which makes it easier to build connections and gain experience outside of the classroom.

One area that could be improved is communication around certain administrative processes, as some information can occasionally feel unclear or require extra effort to find. However, the overall student experience, academic opportunities, and community atmosphere make it a university I would recommend to future students.

    Close Knit, Tons of Opportunities

I studied here when the school was still in its previous name, but I had nothing but great experiences. Being a commuter school means that most people will study and simply return home, and there is a lack of overall community – but community does exist if you put yourself out there and you don’t have to look far. Get involved with clubs, course unions and your program events. Everyone is very approachable and none of the professors I had ever turned me away from chatting about schoolwork and making reasonable requests. I felt nothing but support from the staff throughout my entire journey here.

I had the misfortune of being roped into an academic misconduct (group projects amirite?) once, and the professor I had dealing with it at the time was extremely professional. She was willing to hear everyone’s sides of the story even though she really didn’t need to (could have just failed all of us right then and there) and went through all the right channels to see through the misconduct and punishing the right people. At the time, there was a lot of frustration, anger and annoyance on all sides of course – but looking back, I’m grateful it was dealt with fairly and professionally.

Study spaces can improve. JOR and KERR needs a huge revamp, but I mean, you’re in the middle of the city – why box yourself in on campus to study when there’s tons of coffee shops, other libraries?

    Amazing University!

I loved my experience at TMU. I found the community to be extremely kind, welcoming and excited about going to school in Toronto. There are so many clubs to join so please join as many clubs as you can to meet people and make new friends! My program was very close-knit so I was able to develop good friendships with my peers, which made me love my experience even more. I would definitely recommend going to TMU!

    TorontoMet Review

As a third year student at TorontoMet I can confidently say that my experience here has been pretty good overall compared to my previous post-secondary experience. Being in the heart of Toronto is amazing since we have access to basically everything in the vicinity which helps me to feel less isolated. As a student with a disability I appreciate how the university has a lot of services on campus for extra help, to ask questions and resources for our mental health. The campus itself feels like its in its own bubble and I haven’t had any issues with buildings or classrooms. Moreover, my ability to excel in my program here has boosted my confidence and allowed me to validate that I chose the right university and program for me.

    Safety

I appreciate that I can study in Toronto with numerous networking opportunities and highly educated professors. Given its location, the school can be a little challenging to navigate, but once you do, it gets easier. The sociology program itself has allowed me to improve as a writer and has sharpened my attention to detail and reading comprehension. I value the program’s requirement of statistics classes to improve my math and analytical abilities in addition to helping my essay-writing abilities. The biggest drawback, in my opinion, is campus safety, more needs to be done to address this since crime in Toronto has dramatically increased due to several issues, and because of this, safety at Toronto Metropolitan University has been poor.

    Program

What I like about Toronto Metropolitan University is the warm welcome that was provided compared to my first university experience. Professors are passionate about their careers as well as the care for students. Mental health awareness, as well as appreciation for different minorities is evident. Questions are answered without judgement and the overall community of the school is very uplifting and does not feel toxic. I feel that the people involved in my program are righteous people and although very competitive, I do not feel like I’m behind others or being treated different.

    Great campus location, friendly professors

TMU, formerly Ryerson University is a hub of activity and life. The professors are knowledgeable, and the campus is constantly growing. The classes are informative, and the problem sets reflect practical industry related situations.
One of the few major downsides to being on the TMU campus is the integration with the Toronto downtown. Often there are homeless, or otherwise uninviting figures present on campus. I have seen the campus security ramp up in past years.

    Equitable

Ryerson University is an equitable institution. The professors are incredibly nice and accommodating. The institution has policies that are equitable. For example, when you need an extension at the last minute, you can submit a doctor’s note within the first three days of the assignment deadline. This helped me so much throughout the years!
