Student review [#104595] for Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media
at Simon Fraser University

I left a technical school looking for a university that helped me understand media in a deeper way. I wanted to learn the power and the pitfalls of communication, and how it shapes our society. At Simon Fraser University I cerntainly found what I was looking for – It was small pieces of gold.

Through my classes, I gained a deeper understanding of media and left longing to use these tools to be of service to others. My classmates, however, seemed more concerned about job opportunities, which is understandble. By the end of my studies I noticed professors advocating for more “practical” courses so that students felt better prepared for the workplace. While job preparation is important when investing in one’s education, we can never neglect taking time to understand the heavy weight of responsability we carry in the media industry. Even though I have gained valueable knowledge, SFU often felt transient.

People were always comming and going, not really looking to make strong, lasting connections. Yet, even though SFU did not provide a great sence of community, I am deeply grateful for the insights I gained – each one a small pieces of gold.
