A business cannot survive if its products are not marketed in the proper way. Luckily for all the businesses out there, the number of candidates wanting to pursue a marketing career is growing tremendously.
The aim of this degree is to help students anticipate, manage, and satisfy customers’ needs and wants. By doing so, they will be able to effectively communicate the benefits of any business product to the targeted market.
Due to the fact that marketing is a complex industry, which tackles many areas ranging from market research to advertising and promotion, this degree focuses on all parts of the process before concentrating on a particular area of study.
Good news for marketing graduates! If you did not know yet, marketing is an essential aspect of all types of businesses, from all sectors of activity. Thus, all of them rely on marketers to promote and sell their products. A high market demand comes with many job opportunities available.
According to Labor Department Findings, graduates with a marketing degree can earn 98% more per hour than the ones working in the industry without having a specialised degree.
Furthermore, students are equipped with transferable skills, such as excellent communication abilities, strategic thinking, planning, data analysis and so on, that can be used in other industries too.
Marketing degrees can be studied either as Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc). The major difference lies in the presence of more scientific and technological aspects, which are commonly seen in a BSc rather than a BA.
Like most degrees, marketing courses last between three and four years, depending on the university. However, there are institutions which give students the possibility to do a two-year associate’s degree – also called a ‘foundation’ degree.
Even if graduating from both degrees qualifies candidates to work in this industry, a Bachelor degree has higher chances to lead you to well-paid jobs.
Our university now goes by the name Ontario Tech University. As a transfer student from a university outside of Canada, my honest review about Ontario Tech is 4.5/5. Coming from a university that started just four years ago, I can tell the difference between a long-established university such as OT and one that is still in the process of establishing itself. The professors at Ontario Tech have grown to understand students’ needs when it comes to comprehending course materials and testing their knowledge. Exams and study materials challenge students in a way that somewhat reflects the outside world of business. There is no doubt that as a student, you will face a gap in knowledge between what you’ve learned and studied at the university and what you’ll find yourself doing after graduating and finally landing your first job; however, this is where our university differs from others. At Ontario Tech, you’ll find various opportunities to take part in clubs, projects with your professors, events, and meetings with guest speakers. All of these will benefit you with job market knowledge, differentiate you from others to employers, keep you ahead in terms of skills currently required by jobs, and you’ll find yourself enjoying them as they are not all job-focused but also hobby-related.
View moreThe program that was taken was great. Really learned great fundamentals when it came to different courses. First year had the general business courses so those will be able to branch off into something different if they found a certain course interesting. Second year is when each student was able to dive into their program of choice. More in-depth courses this year round and continued that for the next years. More and more advanced courses with the opportunity to transfer to a university program. Taking college courses and then going into a university course was a much smoother transition and getting the hands on experience has helped me today. The teachers were awesome for the most part. A couple of bad apples and when I mean a couple it was only two really. The students were great too. All very chill and aspiring students to take their future seriously starting with schooling. The campus had everything you needed. Multiple Tim Horton’s, McDonalds, a cafeteria, good size gym and multiple gymnasiums too. Fairly close to in the city to go walk around. Had housing around the school too. Very diverse and had all walks of life. Crested a better experience in my opinion. Met a lot of great people and hope they’re doing well. I still talk to a few people today via social media.
