I studied Environmental Engineering at the University of Guelph through the co-op program, and I can honestly say the co-op experience made all the difference in my education and career. The program itself offers a solid mix of environmental science, civil engineering, and sustainability-focused design — but what really set it apart was the hands-on experience through co-op placements.

Throughout my degree, I completed three work terms, each one in a different industry setting: consulting, municipal government, and a private environmental firm. Each placement gave me a completely different perspective on the field and helped me figure out what type of work I actually enjoyed (and what I didn’t!).

The support from the university’s co-op office was great. They helped with resume reviews, mock interviews, and there was always a stream of job postings tailored to engineering students. By the time I graduated, I already had solid professional experience, connections in the industry, and a much stronger resume than I would have without co-op.

Even better — my last placement actually turned into a full-time job offer before I even finished my final semester. That wouldn’t have happened without the co-op pathway.

I’d highly recommend this program to anyone serious about getting into the environmental field. The technical education is strong, but the real advantage is how it prepares you to step right into the job market with confidence and experience.

Being part of the varsity sports program at the University of Guelph was one of the most rewarding chapters of my life—and serving as captain of my team made it even more meaningful. Guelph’s varsity culture goes far beyond just competition; it’s about community, leadership, and growth both on and off the field.

One of the standout aspects is the incredible support system. From coaches to teammates to athletic staff, there’s a real sense of family here. Everyone’s committed to helping you succeed—not just in your sport, but in your academics and personal development too. As captain, I had the chance to lead by example, and I always felt backed by a team that believed in each other.

Another major perk is the flexibility built into the program. Balancing varsity athletics with a full course load isn’t easy, but at Guelph, it’s absolutely doable. The athletic department works with you to make sure your schedule supports both your performance and your education. That flexibility allowed me to thrive in the classroom while competing at a high level.

Overall, being a varsity athlete at Guelph gave me more than just great memories—it gave me lifelong friends, leadership skills, and a deep appreciation for what it means to be part of something bigger than yourself. It’s a community that pushes you to be your best, and I’m proud to have been part of it.
