The city and regional planning program at New Bulgarian University wasn’t my first choice but nevertheless, it became my first and most important passion project. I was constantly engaged in the ideas and valuable projects of the department since day one. Some of my professors turned out to be much more involved in the process of regional governance than actual political figures. I had to understand the importance of joining the ruling and organizational structures on every level as a citizen before I could understand the power of change of the actual people in positions of power. Becoming a mayor or an attorney on a regional level is not the only thing we can become after graduation. We were encouraged to search for paths outside the traditional approaches and learned how to influence decision-making in city councils and regional councils.
