I chose Hasselt University because of the unique joint Master in Energy Engineering Technology with KU Leuven—one of the few English-taught programs in Belgium that truly bridges academic theory with hands-on industry experience. Working with real projects and cutting-edge labs like EnergyVille has been incredibly rewarding, and the professors’ close ties to the energy sector bring real-world relevance into the classroom. Adjusting to a new education system and settling into life in Belgium wasn’t always easy—language barriers and paperwork were challenging at first—but the supportive environment, approachable staff, and friendly city of Hasselt made it easier to adapt. Looking back, the mix of practical learning, strong academic support, and a welcoming international atmosphere has made this a truly valuable experience.
View moreHasselt University is an exceptional choice for science and engineering students. The relatively small size of the university allows for personalized supervision, which facilitates interaction between students and professors. The laboratories are well equipped, and the courses are often oriented towards practical applications, which is very enriching. However, the organization of the courses could be more flexible to adapt to the needs of international students. The city of Hasselt is charming and offers a quiet environment for studying, with many cultural activities nearby. For those looking for a solid education and a friendly atmosphere, I highly recommend this university.
