I really enjoyed and still enjoy my time at Graz university. To be fair most of our professors are really nice and helpful especially Mrs Imsirovic at translation studies and also Mrs Aguilar at the bachelor seminar. I enjoy most of my classes even tho I do believe that the class scientific writing was neither helpful nor necessary. Also it would be ne nice if the university would take our certificates some of us have for languages but instead we have to take an language exam. I do believe that is something that needs to change.
View moreAs a former student of business administration, currently studying sports sciences, I can review my time as a student in Graz from two perspectives: The business faculty is very anonymous and crowded. You are on your own at university, the most helpful tool to get additional scripts and information is actually the facebook community. Even though conditions got better in the last few years, if you consider studying business administration, you should probably go to WU Vienna.
Sports sciences are totally different: Since there are way fewer students (between 40-70 new per semester) and the fact that there is only 1 lecture room, students know each other and the professors know the students, which creates a very friendly environment to study. Since I am in my first semester, I can not judge the level compared to other universities, but all facilities are easy to reach, on a timely standard and due to the good organization you do not have any trouble practicing or missing courses.
As a student of BA Transcultural Communication I would like to say:
– the Curriculum is being constantly changed and has a lot of complications and difficulties such as not being able to change the study languages without loosing at least one semester because of unnecessary and restrictive conditions
– it is more science than practical oriented
– there is no standard level for languages required, which means even though there are entrance exams the levels depend of the group dynamics
The University of Graz is good value. The facilities are good and the personal helpful. The tuition conditions I had there were optimum but I know it could not be the case for 1st-year students, especially in law.
The teachers are high profiles, especially in history and international relations.
Be ready to help yourself if you are not a German native speaker though, especially with questions regarding the administration
As a student of doctoral studies at University of Graz, I would state my opinion as a good enough because it is surely worth of money but not the top level. Regarding the Staff (Professors, Assistants, Collaborators etc.) they share a very special connection with the students. Most important, they always have time to help to assist you or to give you fine advice. Even though I find this very kind of them, scientifically they are not on the required level as top European universities are. So, I recommend this University as a good one to reach master’s degree or bachelor degree but not the one to study doctoral studies.
