I had some difficulty with certain subjects when I first started the Premed programme at NAU and I remember feeling a little behind at times. Biology was always the subject I felt most confident in, so it took me a while to adjust to topics like chemistry and physics that required a different way of thinking. There were moments when I had to go over the same material several times before it finally made sense. Thankfully the people at NAU were helpful whenever I needed an explanation or had questions about something I was studying. Sometimes hearing a topic explained in a different way was all I needed to understand it. The study materials were also useful because I could revisit difficult sections in my own time. It made a difference knowing I could ask for help instead of struggling with everything alone. After three years, I can honestly say that I am glad I stuck with it. I have become more confident in subjects that once seemed difficult to me and I no longer feel that I need to understand everything immediately to do well. That is probably one of the most valuable things I have gained from my time at NAU.
