Although your university experience isn’t entirely comprised of how big a room you have or whether there’s laundry in your building, poor accommodation can certainly impact your studies. So, if you want to make sure you’re living in the best place possible, you might apply to one of the best universities for student accommodation.
Student accommodation varies significantly across Europe. In the UK, student dorms provided by universities are common even for international students, while elsewhere in Europe (the Netherlands, in particular), student housing shortages are making it harder for students to find a place to live during their studies.
To find out which universities excel in providing accommodation, we looked at verified student reviews left on EDUopinions. By ranking universities in Europe according to the ‘accommodation’ score chosen by reviewers (one of eight specific experience ratings), we can see which universities have the best student accommodation according to students themselves.
So, without further ado, here are the top 10 best universities for student accommodation in Europe.
Top 10 Universities for Student Accommodation
Our recent ranking of the best cities for student accommodation in Europe was dominated by UK destinations, including Oxford, Sheffield, and Leeds.
However, when it comes to universities that offer attractive accommodation options, the ranking is far more varied. In fact, our ranking features schools from France, Poland, the UK, Spain, and Denmark.
Methodology: our ranking is based on ratings from 1,699 student reviews for European universities posted in 2023. We only included universities that had at least 10 reviews posted on their profiles in the year 2023.
10. Queen Margaret University

At Queen Margaret University, the majority of first-year students are housed in on-campus accommodation in the Student Village. Here, students can take advantage of fully-furnished residences just a short walk from the main academic buildings.
The Student Village can accommodate up to 800 students, but applications must be made for a spot! Each room is equipped with an en-suite, while students share a kitchen with a limited number of other students.
The QMU campus is just a 6-minute train ride from Edinburgh city centre, but for students who prefer living off-campus to properly experience city life, private rentals in nearby Musselburgh or central Edinburgh are a popular option.
Student Review
The actual university is small- very intimate. Accommodation blocks only contain 800 students, so freshers get a good chance to meet a tonne of people on a regular basis. The actual course is good, a good range of different assessments. Professors are sometimes not very helpful.
Student Review
Undergrad dietetics students, love my course and the lecturers are super helpful and very good at what they do. Though uni facilities are a bit disappointing. The library is very small and I often struggle to find quiet spaces to study and sports facilities at the uni are at a bare minimum. I stay in university accommodation, it’s affordable and comfortable and all the facilities in the accommodation are in great condition
9. Montpellier Business School

Montpellier Business School does not have on-campus dormitories, but students have access to a wide range of private accommodation options in Montpellier. The city is one of France’s top student destinations, so there are plenty of house shares and private accommodation options available.
The business school’s campus is well-connected to the rest of the city; it’s just 15 minutes by tram from the city centre. Situated across a huge area of parkland, students at MBS can benefit from life in the city and a relaxed study environment.
Student Review
This university stands out in a real way. Its dedication to producing qualified teachers and state-of-the-art facilities contribute to a friendly and diverse campus community. Additionally, the organization offers a variety of adaptable accommodation choices, ensuring that students can easily find the ideal accommodation that suits their particular tastes and needs. This university undoubtedly stands out as the best option for aspiring students looking for a deep, comprehensive and enriching higher education experience.
Student Review
This University is different from others I have heard of in terms of how well the facilities are and how they manage to create an atmosphere that promotes positive learning. The housing are quite comfortable and gives off a community like scenery, coupled with the way the campus blends academics and extracurriculars together is just beautiful.
8. Aarhus University

Aarhus University provides students with various accommodation options, whether you want to stay in a university-managed dorm or need help securing a private apartment in the city. University dorms are located across the city, though all are situated close to public transport connections—and you can always do as the Danish do and cycle!
Accommodation options with Student Housing Aarhus range from shared apartments to single rooms within accommodation blocks. You’ll typically share a kitchen and living spaces with housemates. But university accommodation is limited and waiting lists for places are fierce, so make sure to apply at least six months before starting university.
Student Review
Aarhhs University is an excellent university for those seeking a good experience, both academically and socially. The campus is safe, supportive, and well-equipped, and the professors are knowledgeable and helpful. Accommodation is affordable, and the area is great for students. In short, Aarhus university is an excellent option for students.
Student Review
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at this college! The flexible classes for the course were a huge plus, allowing for a great work-life balance. The location was perfect – easily accessible and convenient. I especially appreciated the urban setting, which encouraged students to explore and utilize the surrounding city spaces. And, the lecturers were absolutely good – friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help.
7. Universitat Politécnica de Valencia

At Universitat Politécnica de Valencia, students can choose between student halls of residence or look for private accommodation in the city. Residence halls will come equipped with facilities like laundry and shared living spaces, but some students prefer the variety of options offered on the rental market in Valencia.
For example, city suburbs like Benimaclet and El Cabanyal are popular spots for students, and with an affordable, comprehensive pubblic transportation and bike-sharing systems in the city, you don’t have to worry about living far from campus.
Student Review
The UPV is one of the best universities in Spain and its facilities are the best. It has various campuses throughout the city of Valencia that include classrooms, laboratories, services, rest areas…In addition, the quality of study is unbeatable.
Student Review
Don get me wrong, its a great university and the Vera campus is great but in my time there, I didn’t see many international students. It might be different for other faculties but in the ETSID, there is only one bachelors program taught in english, therefore the lack of internationals.
Other than that, the university offers a great deal of top of the notch laboratories (specially the combustion and aeronautics ones) and there are many student teams (hyperloop, formula student, azalea…) to further improve your experience there.
6. IE University

IE University’s main campus is in Segovia, a hilltop town just 30 minutes by train outside Madrid. Here, students can choose from a range of university-managed residences close to the large campus, or private flats in the historic city center.
In Madrid, students attending the graduate programs have access to private student residences or can rent apartments across the city, all well-connected to the campus via public transport. Both locations offer a unique living experience, with proximity to university facilities and the chance to experience the vibrant Spanish lifestyle.
Student Review
IE is a university that’s known in Madrid for its quality education and great teacher-student relationship. The campus is beautiful as well and it’s a very welcoming university to foreign students as well.
I had the opportunity to meet a dean some time ago and it was an awesome experience.
I wish every university would have such great relationships with students as IE university.
Student Review
I am a 2nd year BBA student at IE University in Segovia. I really enjoy the school. The campus is located in an old building but is still very modern inside. Technologies are implemented in the whole school and a gym, cafeteria are offered. The teaching is very good, as teachers are open and always available. They are professionals passionated about their subject. There is also a lot of diversity with more than 150 nationalities on campus. The amount of class per day is quite small, allowing to visit or do other activities during the day. I highly recommend the Segovia campus if you like to be surrounded by people most of the times. Indeed, it is like a family here. Also, if you want to get both the experience of segovia and madrid, it is a good choice to choose this campus first.
5. University of Warsaw

The University of Warsaw provides students with the option to stay in one of several university-managed dormitories located around the city, many within 15-30 minutes from the main campus by public transport.
Most dormitory rooms are shared; priority for single rooms given to PhD students. You’ll also share bathrooms and kitchens with other students. However, rooms are extremely affordable, typically priced between €100–€150 per month, so you’ll have plenty of monthly budget leftover for exploring the city and enjoying the student life.
Student Review
Living in a student residence is an excellent way to experience how local students live, allowing you to truly integrate with them. Additionally, the accommodation provided me the opportunity to get to know my classmates better, along with their culture and unique lifestyles!
Student Review
The University of Warsaw’s campus is a student’s paradise, with open spaces, cafes, markets, and shopping malls. The Student Life department organizes regular events to help students connect and enjoy their time on campus. The students themselves are friendly and welcoming, making it easy to make new friends. In short, the University of Warsaw is a great place to be a student.
4. Coventry University

Coventry University, like most UK universities, offers a variety of student housing to incoming students, whether international or home students. Most students stay in university-managed residence halls within walking distance of the main campus, where you’ll be offered en-suite rooms and shared kitchens and living spaces.
For students seeking more privacy, privately rented apartments and houses in the city are also available, with some only a short bus ride or walk from the university. Coventry itself is a compact, diverse city, and also highly affordable, so you’re guaranteed to find a housing option within your student budget.
Student Review
There are many activities available on campus, including clubs, societies, the gym, and many places to visit in the neighbourhood. You can also meet wonderful people there. I adore the location and how simple it is to get to Coventry. The student housing is also excellent. Excellent learning facilities and a very interesting course.
Student Review
Coventry University offers a robust experience, especially for those seeking practical skills and industry connections.
while the university’s city-center campus is convenient, it can sometimes feel crowded and lacks the green spaces found in more suburban campuses.
3. Paris School of Business

Although Paris School of Business doesn’t have on-campus dorms, students can choose from private student residences or shared flats in various Parisian districts. With freedom to choose your private residence, you can opt for a neighbourhood as close or as far from campus as you wish, immersing yourself into local life.
Popular student areas include the 13th and 14th arrondissements, which are close to the campus and well-connected by public transport. Renting a room in a shared apartment or using services like CROUS Paris are common options, with many houses located within 30 minutes of the school.
Student Review
So much in PSB is commendable, starting from the lecturers and how much good influence they have on students, making it important to push students to success, the campus feels like home, forming relationships has proven quite easy, its activities and clubs are also engaging enough to make students feel at ease whilst still working and driving towards their goals.
Student Review
I completed my MSc in International Marketing and Business Development at the Paris School of Business in January 2023. The program provided a strong academic foundation, supported by highly qualified professors with extensive industry experience. However, the university offers limited support for international students after completing the program, particularly when it comes to finding internships and navigating the local job market.
2. Clermont School of Business

Clermont School of Business partners with housing providers across Clermont-Ferrand to provide students with a range of accommodation options, whether you wish to house share or find a dorm room. Popular options include dorm rooms offered by CROUS, the French student housing provider, and private accommodation blocks run by other third-party organisations.
Clermont-Ferrand is a popular student city, with around 40,000 students and 5,000 international students. With a lower cost of living than other northern French cities, students can find something to fit their budget while enjoying life in a bustling student town.
Student Review
I study in Central Asia, so it was different from the way it is in my school. I liked that there was not much pressure on you, the schedule was really convenient to make my own plans. I liked the environment there, because students were helping each other, especially internationals ones. I didn’t feel left out. The equipment in classes, the materials, professors were on high lever. Speaking of professors, I could always approach them, and received a feedback in the way I needed it. I really miss my studies in Clermont, because I was always passioned about classes, projects, since it was entertaining for me, but at the same time you increase your knowledges.
I would definitely recommend this school for those who are interested in business. I acquired lots of skills, because also professors were sharing their own experiences in Michelin, for instance, and it is always useful to be surrounded by motivated people.
The only problem was that I never studied business or management before, since my major was internationals relations. But it was not a problem, because you get help from your class, extra materials and self researches.
Student Review
Attending Clermont School of Business has been an amazing experience for me. The campus is modern and inviting, although some older buildings are being renovated to enhance the overall facilities. The school offers engaging extracurricular activities, including “Happy Tuesdays,” where students can connect with alumni who share their career journeys, providing invaluable insights into professional life and opportunities like apprenticeships. The alumni network has been incredibly supportive, offering personalized recommendations for CV development and job hunting, greatly aiding in my career preparation. Additionally, the school’s support system for students, including academic assistance and counseling services deserves a rating of 5/5. Overall, Clermont School of Business has provided me with a well-rounded education and a strong network to succeed in my future endeavors.
