Forget about the typical campus experience. At Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, you can pursue a top-ranked degree programme and spend your days off sipping an aperitivo along the historic Grand Canal. When you study in Venice, you won’t just get a top-tier education; you’ll get a front-row seat to history.

Originally established as Italy’s first business school in 1868, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice is a multidisciplinary institution offering a wide range of study programmes in economics and management, modern languages, humanities, and the sciences.

If you’re thinking about studying abroad, here are three persuasive reasons Venice – and Ca’ Foscari – deserve a spot at the top of your list.

Top Reasons to Study in Venice at Ca’ Foscari University

1. Gain a world-renowned education for less

ca'foscari university

Ca’ Foscari University offers the rare combination of high-quality teaching, strong global rankings, and accessible tuition fees. The institution appears in over ten QS subject rankings and is internationally recognised in fields such as modern languages (where it ranks 77th globally), economics, management, and cultural studies.

Additionally, the university’s business school, Venice School of Management, is EQUIS-accredited and ranks in the top ten in Italy for accounting and management programmes.

Getting a top-ranked degree in Venice won’t break your student budget, either. As a public university, Ca’ Foscari keeps tuition accessible, with students from outside the EU often paying lower fees than EU students, which is unusual among European universities. You can also get a reduced tuition fee rate, calculated according to your family income

Ca’ Foscari University also offers scholarships to help reduce the cost of studying for ambitious, talented international students. The Ca’ Foscari Honours Scholarships are renewable, yearly financial aid packages that offer students €10,000 per year for the duration of their programmes.

Don’t be put off by the cost of living in the centre of Venice. Many students in Venice choose to live on the mainland, in areas like Mestre, where modern, convenient, and well-connected accommodation is more affordable. This gives you the best of both worlds: the charm of Venice’s historic atmosphere and the comfort of a contemporary neighbourhood filled with amenities.

Ca\' Foscari University Review

Ca’ Foscari University of Venice offers a strong academic environment with well-structured course materials and highly qualified professors who provide in-depth knowledge and practical insights. The curriculum is designed to be both comprehensive and industry-relevant, helping students develop analytical and problem-solving skills. The faculty is experienced, supportive, and dedicated to ensuring that students gain a solid understanding of their field. However, certain administrative processes can be slow and inefficient, which can sometimes be frustrating. Despite this, the university provides great learning opportunities, a diverse international community, and a rich cultural setting in Venice. Overall, I would recommend it to students looking for a high-quality education in an inspiring environment.

Hight-level studing experience

I had my Master’s degree in Humanities at Ca’ Foscari and my studying experience is extremely positive. My study plan was well-organised and multidimensional wich gave me a good preparation for future work and studies. All the professors that I met were professionals not only in their fields but also in terms of educating and communicating a knowledge. At Ca’ Foscari the educational process was not limited by class – I had the opportunity to participate in scientific conventions, seminars, presentations, labs etc. Besides education I’d like to mention a rich campus life with sport and art events, festivals, exhibitions and other activities organisated by and for students. I’m glad to reccomend the Ca’Foscari University to other people who is searching their next step in education

Venice has always been a crossroads of cultures. So, although Ca’ Foscari is an Italian institution, one third of its Bachelor’s programmes and more than half of its Master’s programmes are taught in English. These global-oriented programmes attract students from around the world who want to engage in cross-cultural learning.

As a member of EUTOPIA, an alliance of ten European universities, Ca’ Foscari offers students access to a continent-wide professional network, with collaborative research and training opportunities.

Ca’ Foscari also offers more than 500 exchange programmes and over 50 joint and double degree options, so you can build an international CV while studying in Venice. Additionally, through double degrees, students can study at top institutions in Australia, Germany, France, and the UK. This means you can study in two countries, gain two qualifications, and make your CV stand out in competitive international job markets.

Speaking of – when you study in Venice, you’ll have access to jobs in global Italian cities. Venice is well-connected by air and rail to cities like Milan, Padua, and Turin, and Ca’ Foscari’s careers office provides workshops to help international students navigate the Italian jobs market.

Opportunities At Ca\\\' Foscari

Thanks to my 5-year academic experience at Ca’ Foscari University, I had the chance to pursue an Erasmus+ scholarship to study in Norway (at NTNU, Trondheim) for one year. The knowledge acquired while studying in Venice, enriched me with both soft and hard skills that allowed me to study in a completely different country and context. Professors are prepared, reliable and available most of the time. My Master’s thesis coordinator, constantly helped me throughout the entire writing process and he always maintained a steady communication between him and I. Moreover, there are a lot of university clubs which anyone can join: I personally joined Marketers Club as Partnership Specialist, which is based on Marketing and the digital world. It gave me the opportunity to interface myself with real-world companies and to cooperate in the organization of internal events. After these five years at Ca’ Foscari, it was easy for me to find a job that I like in a really nice and competitive company. I am really happy and satisfied with what this university has offered to me and I would do it again and again!

Culturally enriching experience

Studying at Ca’ Foscari has been an enriching experience for me for several reasons.
First, I think that Venice itself offers a unique and beautiful environment. The city is rich in places to spend your free time like museums, cultural events, cafes and bars, scenic walks, and you also have the option to visit more calm places like Lido or the Giardini. There’s always something to discover, and with student discounts, museum visits are affordable. In the summer Venice can become very crowded but I believe you quickly adapt, learning to find hidden pathways and navigate the busy streets.
Academically, I appreciate the opportunity to take courses in both English and Italian. This allows me to improve my Italian and also gives me flexibility in my learning experience. However, I recognize that for those who don’t speak Italian, the selection of courses may feel somewhat limited.
The university is very good in fostering cultural engagement. The faculty organizes numerous literary events, and I particularly enjoyed the Incroci di Civiltà festival but there were many others organized by professors who I took courses with. I also think that with the amount of students from abroad it creates an overall very international atmosphere at the university.
Additionally, the intimate class sizes create a welcoming atmosphere where it’s easy to connect with classmates and professors. The smaller setting promotes close collaboration and meaningful interactions, which improved my learning experience.
Beyond academics, Ca’ Foscari encourages students to explore interests outside their studies. I took part in extracurricular activities, including working with the student radio, which was a good way to meet new people and broaden my horizons beyond my general study course.
Overall, my time at Ca’ Foscari has been both academically rewarding and personally enriching, thanks to the vibrant setting of Venice, engaging courses, and opportunities for cultural and extracurricular involvement.
If you are looking for a unique and culturally very rich experience I would recommend you to study at the university.

3. Enjoy an inspiring student life

study in venice careers

Venice may be famous for its art and history, but studying in Venice never feels like living in a museum. By contrast, the everyday student experience is vibrant and welcoming, blending tradition and modern culture.

There are a collective 24,000 students at Ca’ Foscari University, within a residential population of just 50,000 in the historic centre. As a part of this lively community, you’ll have the chance to join hundreds of events every year, from student Welcome Week activities to academic festivals, cultural exhibitions, and student-led initiatives.

The city of Venice also offers countless events you can enjoy as a student. From the world-famous Carnevale with its elaborate masks and balls to the Festa del Redentore and the Venice Biennale of Art and Architecture, there’s always something to look forward to. Throughout the year, you can also explore the sagre, community-focused events throughout the city that celebrate local specialities and history.

Perhaps the greatest advantage of studying in Venice is the exceptional quality of life. This is a highly sustainable, car-free city where your daily commute involves walking through historic squares or catching the vaporetto water bus along the Grand Canal.

And when you want a weekend adventure, you’re close to sandy Mediterranean beaches, the Dolomite mountains, perfect for hiking and skiing, and charming northern Italian cities like Padua, Verona, Trieste, and Bologna.

This balance – culture, nature, and convenience – makes student life not just exciting, but genuinely inspiring.

Dinamic balance of study and cultural experiences

Being one of the very few italian universities that offers a Master in Translation and Interpretation program for chinese language, Ca’ Foscari has offered me an even more well-rounded education by integrating three languages (chinese, english and italian) and almost all aspects of translation industry today into one single program. Studying at Ca’ Foscary, however, is not only about books and computer slides, you will be missing out on the very essence of life in Venice if you don’t immerge yourself in the lively local atmosphere! Venice is famous for its rich offer of cultural events, from Carnival, Redentore, Regata, to the Biennale and Film Festivals, and Ca’ Foscari brings all of this at your doorsteps, all the while pursuing your academic career!
