The Chemistry and Biology program at the University of Bath is exceptional for students who enjoy hands-on learning. The interdisciplinary approach of combining chemistry with biology opens up diverse career paths in research, healthcare, and industry. The tutorials are small and interactive, fostering a supportive learning environment where complex topics are broken down effectively. However, the workload can be intense, especially during exam periods, requiring strong time management skills. The placement year is another major advantage, offering industry exposure that enhances career prospects.
There has been a major increase in the number of African students that have enrolled in the last year but many of us have failed to establish a sense of community amongst ourselves. I can say that Uni life has not been easy to navigate and not having a village of people who are like me has been tough so I can only imagine what someone else is going through. I think the Uni needs to integrate an ACS for students like me, to know that they have people who they can rely on as well as provide an escape from what can be an overwhelming work life
