SU Review

SU is a quite vibrant school and I am quite satisfied so far. I believed my programme can help unlock multiple career prospects in the future, The professors are kind and always willing to provide assistance.

Great university, but not so inclusive

The university is beautiful, there is no doubt about that. Although it is one of the most multicultural campuses in the world, the course I took was not inclusive for foreign students. The course was advertised as a course designed specifically for foreigners, with classes in English. In practice, many of the classes on the syllabus were actually in Swedish, and the ones that were in English gave exercises or texts in Swedish. I even had a disagreement with one of the professors who, although he was teaching a class that was supposed to be entirely in English, brought slides in Swedish and spoke exclusively in Swedish. When I asked during the break if the class shouldn't be in English, he ridiculed me in front of the class and said that if I was uncomfortable, I should have said so beforehand. The universitys advisors were very understanding, but in the end, I had to give up many of the assigned subjects and replace them with subjects that had nothing to do with my field, just because they were, in fact, taught in English.

Great international marketing program!

I knew I wanted to study marketing, but what made me choose Mälardalen University was the international twist on their marketing program. To get the International Marketing degree it's mandatory to go on an exchange semester (I went to Paris and it was amazing!) and many of the classes have an international angle. Most of the professors were really good - they based our assignments on real life issues and they truly cared about our success. To add to the real life experience we also had many guest lecturers giving us great insight into different marketing professions. Since the school is relatively new the facilities and especially the library are very nice. The one down side is the fact that Västerås isn't a big student city. There are some student activities going on, but it is far from the student life in the big university cities.
