History

Founded in 1919 in Springfield, Massachusetts, the then-called Springfield Divison of Northeastern College looks back upon a long history. In the beginning, it only offered part-time programmes in law, business, and accounting. In 1951, the name was changed to Western New England College. The campus was finished in 1959 and the official opening followed 3 years later. It was not until 2011 that the Western New England College officially became Western New England University. All in all, in 2018, the university has over 43,000 alumni around the world.

Currently, the university offers nearly 50 higher education undergraduate degrees, covering diverse subjects and disciplines from more than 200 majors and 100 minors, as well as doctoral programmes. Above all, the university also offers multiple cross-disciplinary, combined degrees. As for the programmes to choose from, Western New England University is split into 5 schools and colleges with programmes in Arts and Sciences, Business, Engineering, Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and Law.
