Founded in 1919 in Springfield, Massachusetts, the then-called Springfield Divison of Northeastern College looks back upon a long history. In the beginning, it only offered part-time programmes in law, business, and accounting. In 1951, the name was changed to Western New England College. The campus was finished in 1959 and the official opening followed 3 years later. It was not until 2011 that the Western New England College officially became Western New England University. Academics at Western New England University
Currently, the university offers nearly 50 higher education undergraduate degrees, covering diverse subjects and disciplines from more than 200 majors and 100 minors, as well as doctoral programmes. Above all, the university also offers multiple cross-disciplinary, combined degrees. As for the programmes to choose from, Western New England University is split into 5 schools and colleges with programmes in Arts and Sciences, Business, Engineering, Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and Law. Moreover, the university is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
Student Life at Western New England University
There are, in 2018, around 4,000 students from 123 countries, with over 60% being male students. There are more than 60 clubs and organisations on campus, that cover a spectrum of interests. They run a literary magazine, a TV station, and a radio station. Also, political groups are formed on campus, which can be joined. The sports offered include baseball, basketball, hockey, football, golf, swimming, wrestling, and more. Western New England University has a band as well, consisting of numerous instruments.
