As a single mom working full time and raising my child on my own I found that WGU’s self paced competency based approach offered the exact flexibility I needed. I would study during bedtime, nap time and even in the car during errands fitting lessons into small pockets of time whenever I could. Because I could test out of material I already understood and spend extra time on what was new I could personalize my pace without worrying about rigid deadlines. My mentor was a constant source of encouragement holding me accountable and helping me balance school and motherhood. The flat rate tuition structure meant that when I accelerated my studies I actually saved money.
