Flexible, Affordable CS Degree

I’m completing my Bachelor of Computer Science at University of the People while working full-time night shifts in aged care in regional Australia, and honestly, no traditional university would have made this possible. The fully online, asynchronous format meant I could study around my roster instead of the other way around, and the term structure (five 9-week terms per year) kept me progressing steadily without ever feeling stuck waiting for the next intake.
The curriculum is solid and practical. Courses like Data Mining and Machine Learning, Comparative Programming Languages, and the core programming and database units gave me genuinely useful skills, and the peer assessment and discussion forum model pushed me to engage with classmates from all over the world, which added a perspective you don’t get in a lecture hall.
The affordability is the standout. Being tuition-free with only assessment fees, I finished a full accredited degree for a fraction of what any comparable program would cost, with no student debt. For anyone who is self-motivated and disciplined, that trade-off is unbeatable.
It’s not for everyone — you need to be self-driven, as there are no live lectures and support is mostly asynchronous, and the peer grading system occasionally requires patience. But if you can manage your own time, the quality of what you learn is entirely up to the effort you put in. I’m graduating with a 3.83 GPA (Magna Cum Laude) while never missing a shift at work, and I’m now using this degree as a stepping stone into postgraduate study. I’d recommend UoPeople without hesitation to working adults, migrants, and anyone who needs education to fit around real life.
