Located on a few different campuses we have the University of Minnesota, an American Public Ivy University; meaning it is one of the best public universities in all of the United States. Founded in 1851, the university’s name is abbreviated into many forms, for example the U of M, UMN, or just the U. There are 2 campuses, in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, about 4.8km apart. The university also operates sister campuses in Crookstown, Duluth, Morris, and Rochester.Show more

View moreThe university of Minnesota is filled with resources of all kinds. There is an abundance of unique majors and classes to choose from, there are numerous resources for numerous mental health issues, there are physical and digital libraries with more knowledge than any one person could know, and there is seemingly a school club for any niche interest. However, it is not perfect. I was extremely excited to finally attend my first therapy session as I had heard the U had free therapy with valid insurance. However, trying to schedule an appointment was impossible as there were no appointments available for 3 months. My largest gripe with the U, besides it’s outrageous tuition in general, is how it tries to syphon every last cent it can from you. There are non refundable fees that will automatically be added onto your account if you do not signify every semester that you do not want the service. If you do not show your insurance to the U within the first month or two lf every semester, you will be billed $1,795. There are also small things like when I was billed $15 for a new lunchbox without being told during the transaction that I would be billed. Lastly, THERE IS NO AIR CONDITIONING IN MY DORM HALL. The average temperature of my dorm when I first moved in was higher than the wall of debt I am amassing every semester I attend here.

The diverse cohort and numerous programs that make it an amazing environment. There are a lot of research opportunities which are fantastic. Minnesota’s cold winters are pretty challenging.
