Syracuse University (reviews)

History

Established in 1870, Syracuse University has a long history. The Genesee Wesleyan Seminary, which became the basis of Syracuse University, was founded in 1831 by the Methodist Episcopal Church in Lima, New York. However, the location was seen as not central enough and therefore moved to Syracuse, where there was a high demand for a new university. In 1869, Genesee College received approval from the State of New York to move to Syracuse, but Lima got a court injunction to block the process, which is why Genesee stayed in Lima until it was dissolved in 1875. Furthermore, Syracuse University was founded as a coeducational institution because the conditions of admission were intended to be equal to everyone, regardless of gender. Above all, Syracuse even developed organisations and clubs exclusively for women.
